Max Richter has signed on to score the upcoming historical drama Testament of Youth. The film is directed by James Kent (The Thirteenth Tale) and stars Alicia Vikander, Kit Harrington, Dominic West, Emily Watson, Taron Egerton, Colin Morgan, Joanna Scanlan, Hayley Atwell, Jonathan Bailey and Alexandra Roach. The movie is based on the autobiography of Vera Brittain and tells the story of the British writer and pacifist who postponed her studies at Oxford University during World War I to serve as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse in London, France and Malta. Juliette Towhidi (Calendar Girls) has written the screenplay. David Heyman (Harry Potter series, Gravity, I Am Legend) and Rosie Alison are producing the Heyday Films and BBC Films production. Richter is taking over scoring duties for Mark Bradshaw who was previously attached to score the film. Testament of Youth is set to be released in 2015.
Richter is also scoring HBO’s The Leftovers, which currently airs Sunday nights and has recently been renewed for a second season. Also coming up for the composer is the romantic thriller Escobar: Paradise Lost starring Josh Hutcherson and Benicio Del Toro, which will premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.
