Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the supernatural horror family comedy Haunted Mansion directed by Justin Simien and starring LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, Danny DeVito, Chase W. Dillon, Rosario Dawson and Jamie Lee Curtis. The film’s original score is composed by Kris Bowers (Bridgerton, Green Book, Secret InvasionKing Richard, Queen Charlotte). Also opening wide is the Australian supernatural horror thriller Talk to Me directed by Danny & Michael Philippou and starring Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Otis Dhanji, Joe Bird and Miranda Otto. Cornel Wilczek (Clickbait, These Final Hours, Nowhere Boys) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows a group of friends who discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being distributed in the U.S. by A24.

Opening semi-wide in around 550 theaters is the Japanese animated feature The First Slam Dunk written and directed by Takehiko Inoue. The film’s original music is composed by Satoshi Takebe (Earwig and the Witch, From Up on Poppy Hill) and the Japanese rock band 10-FEET.. Universal Music has released a soundtrack album featuring both score and songs from the movie earlier this year. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the drama War Pony directed by Riley Keough & Gina Gammell and starring Jojo Bapteise Whiting and LaDainian Crazy Thunder. Christopher Stracey (Maid, Cha Cha Real Smooth) & Mato Wayuhi (Reservation Dogs) have composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the action thriller Sympathy for the Devil directed by Yuval Adler and starring Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman. The film’s original music is composed by Ishai Adar (Bethlehem, Our Flood). No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which revolves around a man who finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse where nothing is as it seems, is being released by RLJE Films.

Another movie opening in select theaters is the drama The Unknown Country co-written and directed by Morrisa Maltz and starring Lily Gladstone, Raymond Lee, Lainey Bearkiller Shangreaux, Richard Ray Whitman, Jazmine Shangreaux and Devin Shangreaux. Alexis MarshSamuel Jones (Animal Kingdom, We’ll Never Have ParisEquity, Lila & Eve) and Neil Halstead have composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being distributed by Music Box Films.

Opening in select U.S. theaters is the Spanish/French thriller The Beasts (As Bestas) co-written and directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and starring Marina Foïs, Denis Menochet, Luis Zahera, Diego Anido and Marie Colomb. The film’s original music is composed by Olivier Arson (The CandidatePiggy, Riot Police, Madre). SIVIANA has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last November when the movie opened overseas. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the documentary Bobi Wine: The People’s President directed by Christopher Sharp & Moses Bwayo about the pop star-turned-politician who is seeking to end Uganda’s brutal dictatorship. Dan Jones (On Chesil Beach, World on FireAny Human Heart, Shadow of the Empire) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a score release. The movie premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and is being released by National Geographic Documentary Films & Variance Films before premiering on the National Geographic Channel and on Disney+ later this year.
