95th Academy Awards Nominations Announced

oscars9 This morning, the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards were announced. Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of the last year will be presented on Oscar Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center and will be televised live in the U.S. on the ABC Television Network at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. Here are the music-related nominations:

Applause (from Tell It Like a Woman) – Music & Lyric by Diane Warren
Hold My Hand (from Top Gun: Maverick) – Music & Lyric by Lady Gaga & Bloodpop
Lift Me Up (from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) – Music by Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler & Ludwig Goransson, Lyric by Tems & Ryan Coogler
Naatu Naatu (from RRR) – Music by M.M. Keeravani, Lyric by Chandrabose
This Is a Life (from Everything Everywhere All at Once) – Music by Ryan Lott, David Byrne & Mitski, Lyric by Ryan Lott & David Byrne

Among the score composers, John Williams (previous winner for Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws, Star Wars, E.T. & Schindler’s List) received his fifty-third nomination. Carter Burwell and Justin Hurwitz (previous winner for score and song from La La Land) earned their third nomination and Volker Bertelmann was honored with his second nomination. Son Lux is the only first time nominee.

    Hope the Academy regrets snubbing the soundtrack from Gulliermo del Toro’s Pinocchio for both score and Song(Ciao Papa) for idiotic reasons, now Natuu Natuu is a no contest winner, overrated, PODS song that doesn’t deserve the Oscar in the same veins as “Shallow” and “No Time to Die”(which they’ve won Best Song at every award show)

    I think Carter Burwell will win an Oscar for the Best Original Score from “The Banshees of Inisherin”. He’s the best. Carter Burwell is the best.

    “Hold My Hand” for Best Original Song…uggghhhhh.

    So sad that anything music-wise from Top Gun: Maverick was actually nominated for something here since anything involving new pieces or songs were the absolute worst part of an otherwise pretty good movie.
