Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The Emoji Movie directed by Tony Leondis and featuring the voices of T.J. Miller, Anna Faris, James Corden, Patrick Stewart, Maya Rudolph, Sofia Vergara and Christina Aguilera. The film’s original music is composed by Patrick Doyle (Brave, CinderellaThorHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). Also opening wide is the action thriller Atomic Blonde directed by David Leitch and starring Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, Sofia Boutella and Toby Jones. Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy300, John Wick) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including David Bowie, The Clash, George Michael, Marilyn Manson and HEALTH. Opening in limited release before expanding nationwide next week is the dramatic thriller Detroit directed by Kathryn Bigelow and starring John Boyega, Will Poulter, Algee Smith, Jacob Latimore, Jason Mitchell, Hannah Murray, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack Reynor, John Krasinski and Anthony Mackie. The film’s original score is composed by James Newton Howard (The HungerGamesKing Kong). Motown Records has released a soundtrack album featuring two tracks by the composers, as well as songs by The Roots feat. Bilal, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye & more. Also opening in limited release before expanding nationwide next month is the documentary An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power directed by Bonni Cohen & Jon Shenk and featuring Vice President Al Gore as he continues his fight, training an army of climate champions and influencing international climate policy. Jeff Beal (House of CardsRomeMonk, Gypsy) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records & Mosley Music have released the movie’s original song Truth to Power written by Ryan Tedder and performed by OneRepublic. Also opening in select theaters is the comedy drama Brigsby Bear directed by Dave McCary and starring Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Claire Danes, Mark Hamill, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Greg Kinnear, Kate Lyn Sheil, Ryan Simpkins, Matt Walsh and Michaela Watkins. The film’s original music is composed by David Wingo (LovingMudTake Shelter, Midnight SpecialOur Brand Is Crisis). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Another limited release this week is the comedy drama Person to Person written and directed by Dustin Guy Defa and starring Michael Cera, Abbi Jacobson, Tavi Gevinson, Isiah Whitlock, Michaela Watkins, Olivia Lucciardi, Ben Rosenfield, Buddy Durress, Bene Coopersmith, George Sample III and Philip Baker Hall. The film doesn’t have a principal composer, but Brian McOmber (It Comes at Night) and Scott Fetzer contributed additional music. The movie takes place during a single day in New York City and follows a variety of characters who grapple with the mundane, the unexpected, and the larger questions permeating their lives. Also opening in select cities is the indie drama Menashe co-written and directed by Joshua Z Weinstein and starring Menashe Lustig, Ruben Nyborg, Yoel Weisshaus and Meyer Schwartz. The film’s original music is composed by Aaron Martin and Dag Rosenqvist. Wayfind Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in limited release and on VOD is the indie thriller Strange Weather written and directed by Katherine Dieckmann and starring Holly Hunter, Carrie Coon, Kim Coates, Glenne Headly, Andrewnw Ward-Hammond, Turner Crumbley, Walker Babington, Shane Jacobsen and Craig Boe. Singer/songwriter Sharon Van Etten has composed the film’s original music. The movie follows a woman who is struggling to come to terms with the death of her son. The drama premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being distributed by Brainstorm Media.

Also opening in select theaters is the drama A Family Man directed by Mark Williams and starring Gerard Butler, Alison Brie, Willem Dafoe, Gretchen Mol and Alfred Molina. Mark Isham (CrashA River Runs Through ItOnce Upon a TimeThe Accountant, Miracle) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select cities is the action adventure Wolf Warriors 2 directed by Wu Jing who also stars in the movie alongside Frank Grillo and Celina Jade. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph Trapanese (OblivionAllegiantTron: UprisingThe Raid: Redemption). The movie follows the title character must emerge from his quiet life to deal with a sadistic band of mercenaries terrorizing innocent civilians, culminating in a climatic battle with a mercenary leader. Also opening in select U.S. theaters and on VOD is the drama The Last Face directed by Sean Penn and starring Charlize Theron, Javier Bardem, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Jean Reno and Jared Harris. Hans Zimmer (GladiatorThe Lion KingInceptionThe Dark KnightInterstellar) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack album.
