Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

gods-of-egyptOpening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure Gods of Egypt directed by Alex Proyas and starring Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Young, Courtney Eaton and Brenton Thwaites. The  film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, 3:10 to Yuma, The Wolverine, The Hurt Locker). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. eddie-the-eagleAlso opening wide is the sports comedy drama Eddie the Eagle directed by Dexter Fletcher and starring Taron Egerton, Christopher Walken, Hugh Jackman, Jo Hartley, Tim McInnerny and Ania Sowinski. Matthew Margeson (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kick-Ass 2) has composed the film’s original score. triple-9The third wide release this weekend is the crime thriller Triple 9 directed by John Hillcoat and starring Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus, Woody Harrelson and Kate Winslet. The film’s original music is composed by Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Claudia Sarne & Leopold Ross (The Book of Eli, Broken City) and Bobby Krlic. BFD Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as a remix of Cypress Hills’ Pigs by Ross. sword-of-destinyOpening in select IMAX theaters this weekend is the martial arts epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny directed by Yuen Wo-Ping and starring Michelle Yeoh,Donnie Yen, Harry Shum, Jr., Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jason Scott Lee, Eugenia Yuan and Roger Yuan. Shigeru Umebayashi (House of Flying Daggers, In the Mood for Love) has composed the film’s original music. Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as an original song he co-wrote next month. jack-of-the-red-heartsAlso opening in limited release is the indie drama Jack of the Red Hearts directed by Janet Grillo and starring AnnaSophia Robb, Famke Janssen, Scott Cohen, Taylor Richardson, Sophia Anne Caruso, Israel Broussard, John D’Leo, Maria Rivera and Tonye Patano. The film’s original music is composed by Saunder Jurriaans and Danny Bensi (The Gift, Enemy, Martha Marcy May Marlene, The One I Love). No word on a soundtrack album. Jack of the Red Hearts follows a teenage con artist who tricks a desperate mother into hiring her as a live-in companion for her autistic daughter. The drama is being released by ARC Entertainment. a-country-called-homeAlso opening in select theaters is the indie drama A Country Called Home directed by Anna Axster and starring Imogen Poots, Mary McCormack, Mackenzie Davis, June Squibb, Shea Whigham and Josh Helman. Singer/songwriter Ryan Bingham who received an Academy Award for an original song from Crazy Heart has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie follows a young woman who finds her world unexpectedly shaken by the news of her estranged father’s death. The drama premiered at last year’s Los Angeles Film Festival and is being released by ARC Entertainment.
