Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

insurgentExpected to top the weekend box office is the second part in the Divergent series, Insurgent directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet. Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Earth to Echo) has composed the film’s original score. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by such artists as M83 feat. Haim, Imagine Dragons, Royal Blood, Woodkid feat. the-gunmanAlso opening wide is the action thriller The Gunman directed by Pierre Morrel, produced by Joel Silver and starring Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance and Jasmine Trinca. Marco Beltrami (World War ZThe Hurt LockerScream, The Wolverine) has composed the film’s original music. do-you-believeOpening in around 1300 theaters is the faith-based drama Do You Believe? directed by Jonathan M. Gunn and starring Mira Sorvino, Sean Astin, Alexa PenaVega, Ted McGinley, Andrea Logan White and Cybill Shepherd. Will Musser who scored last year’s hit movie God’s Not Dead has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Do You Believe? centers on a dozen different lives that intersect on the streets of Chicago, starting with a local pastor being moved by the visible faith of an old street-corner preacher.The drama is being released by Pure Flix. danny-collinsOpening in Los Angeles and New York before expanding to more markets over the next couple of weeks is the comedy drama Danny Collins written and directed by Dan Fogelman and starring Al Pacino, Annette Bening, Jennifer Garner, Bobby Cannavale, Josh Peck and Christopher Plummer. The film’s original music is composed by Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears PradaTropic ThunderThe Secret Life of Walter Mitty) and singer/songwriter Ryan Adams. No soundtrack album has been announced. Danny Collins follows a rocker who decides to change his life after discovering a letter written to him by John Lennon and tracks down his biological son. kumikoAlso opening in limited release is the indie drama Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter directed by David Zellner and starring Rinko Kikuchi. The electro-indie band The Octopus Project has composed the film’s original music. Robot High School has released a soundtrack album featuring the band’s score last week. tracersAlso opening in select cities is the action thriller Tracers directed by Daniel Benmayor and starring Taylor Lautner, Marie Avgeropoulos, Adam Rayner and Rafi Gavron. The film’s original music is composed by Lucas Vidal (Fast & Furious 6The Quiet OnesThe RavenThe Cold Light of Day). No soundtrack album has been released. Tracers follows a New York City bike messenger who is in debt to an organized crime gang and escapes into the world of parkour after meeting a beautiful stranger. The movie is being released in select theaters and on VOD by Lionsgate.

springAnother limited release this week is the sci-fi horror romance Spring directed by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead and starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Nadia Hilker and Francesco Carnelutti. The Album Leaf’s Jimmy LaValle has composed the film’s original music. Eastern Glow Recordings will release a soundtrack album featuring the original score next Tuesday, March 24. growing-up-and-other-liesAlso opening in select theaters is the indie comedy Growing Up & Other Lies directed by Danny Jacobs & Darren Grodsky and starring Adam Brody, Wyatt Cenac, Amber Tamblyn, Josh Lawson, Lauren Miller and Jacobs himself. The film’s original music is composed by Fil Eisler (RevengeEmpireShameless) and Philip Klein. No word on a soundtrack release. Growing Up & Other Lies follows a man who recruits his three oldest friends to help him retrace their greatest adventure: walking the entire, 260-block length of the island of Manhattan in one day. backcountryAlso opening in limited release is the horror thriller Backcountry written and directed by Adam MacDonald and starring Missy Peregrym, Jeff Roop and Eric Balfour. Frères Lumières has composed the film’s original music. Screamworks Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Russell (as Stephen Greene) and starring Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal, Catherine Keener, James Marsden, Tracy Morgan and James Brolin. John Swihart (Napoleon Dynamite, How I Met Your Mother, Switched at Birth) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack album. Accidental Love follows an uninsured waitress who suffers a brain injury after a nail is lodged in her head. zombeaversAnother limited release this weekend is the horror comedy Zombeavers directed by Jordan Rubin and starring Cortney Palm, Rachel Melvin, Lexi Atkins, Rex Linn, Hutch Dano, Jake Weary, Peter Gilroy, John Mayer and Bill Burr. The film’s original music is composed by Jon and Al Kaplan who also co-wrote the screenplay with Rubin. La-La Land Records has announced a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music to be released soon.
