Christophe Beck is scoring the upcoming comedy The Guilt Trip. The film directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 28 Dresses) stars Seth Rogen as an inventor who invites his overbearing mother, played by Barbra Streisand, on a cross-country trip as he tries to sell his new product while also reuniting her with a lost love. Yvonne Strahovski, Colin Hanks and Adam Scott are co-starring. Dan Fogelman (Crazy.Stupid.Love, Cars) has written the screenplay and Evan Goldberg (Superbad, The Green Hornet), Lorne Michaels (30 Rock, Mean Girls) & John Goldwyn (Dexter,Baby Mama) are producing the Paramount Pictures production. The Guilt Trip is scheduled to be released on November 2, 2012.
The composer is also writing the music for a number of TV pilots, most notably for the Untitled Karyn Usher Project. The Fox spy drama reunites Beck with Shawn Levy (Date Night, Cheaper by the Dozen) and Brett Ratner (Tower Heist) who are executive producing the show. Ratner is also directing the pilot about an orphaned 17-year-old daughter of a CIA operative who is recruited to become an operative herself. Saxon Sharbino, Angela Bassett, Julian McMahon, Joel Courtney and Ricky Schroder are starring in the drama created by Karyn Usher (Prison Break). Beck is also scoring two comedy pilots for 20th Century Fox Television directed by Shawn Levy, including Little Brother created by Mike Royce (Everybody Loves Raymond) and starring John Stamos as a man who finds out that he has a half-brother he never knew who also happens to be an ex-con. T.J. Miller is co-starring as the half-brother. The other comedy pilot is the currently Untitled Mandy Moore Project, which stars Moore alongside Stockard Channing, Majandro Delfino and Kurt Fuller. The project written by Bob Fisher (Wedding Crashers and Stacy Traub (Notes from the Underbelly) centers on two newlyweds who get the opportunity of a lifetime to run a hip, new restaurant. All three pilots are produced by Levy’s 21 Laps Productions company and Adelstein Productions (Last Man Standing, Prison Break). (Kraft-Engel Management)
As previously reported, the composer also has the graphic novel adaptation R.I.P.D. and this summer’s comedy The Watch coming up. The latter film, which stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill has just been renamed from its original title Neighborhood Watch. Near the beginning of the movie “Guilt Trip”, the background music sounded so much like something from Carter Burwell or Linkin Park. It was instrumental only, but I recognized he style. Just can’t put my finger on who it was. Can you help me out?
