The CW has published a behind-the-scenes look at the recording sessions of the score the pilot for the network’s upcoming superhero drama Arrow. The video features interviews with the show’s composer Blake Neely, co-writers and executive producers Mark Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, as well as footage from the orchestral scoring sessions. The music was recorded with a full 80 piece orchestra at the Warner Bros. Eastwood Scoring Stage. Check out the video after the jump. Arrow is a modern retelling of the story of the DC Comics character Green Arrow and stars Stephen Amell as the vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology under his secret identity as Oliver Queen, a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist-turned-outspoken politician in Star City.

Jim Dooley to Score the CW’s ‘Emily Owens, M.D.’
Jim Dooley will be scoring the new CW drama Emily Owens, M.D.. The show stars Mamie Gummer (daughter of Meryl Streep) in the title role, alongside Justin Hartley, Michael Rady, Aja Naomi King, Kelly McCreary and Necar Zadegan. The series, which was previously entitled First Cut, follows a newly minted doctor who, glad to leave her past behind for a fresh start in the adult professional world, discovers that life at the hospital where she works is no different than high school. Jennie Snyder Urman (90210, Something Borrowed), Dan Jinks (American Beauty, Milk) and Bharat Nalluri (Tsunami) are executive producing the CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television production.
Mark Mothersbaugh Scoring ‘The Carrie Diaries’
Mark Mothersbaugh has recently scored the pilot for the CW drama The Carrie Diaries. The project based on the bestselling novel by Candace Bushnell is a prequel to the HBO hit show Sex And The City starring Sarah Jessica Parker, and follows the life of Carrie Bradshaw in the 1980s when she asks her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan. The show stars AnnaSophia Robb as Young Carrie, as well as Austin Butler, Katie Findlay, Freeman Agyeman, Matt Letscher, Chloe Bridges, Stefania Owen and Ellen Wong. The pilot is written by Amy Harris (Gossip Girl) who is executive producing the show with Bushnell, Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage (The O.C.) and Len Goldstein for Fake Empire. Miguel Artega (The Good Girl, Cedar Rapids) is directing the pilot.
Blake Neely to Score the ‘Arrow’ Pilot
Blake Neely has announced at the composer panel Behind the Music: Composing for WonderCon’s Favorite Projects at last week’s WonderCon 2012 at the Anaheim Convention Center that he is scoring the pilot of the new CW show Arrow. The modern retelling of the story of the DC Comics character Green Arrow stars Stephen Amell as the vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology under his secret identity as Oliver Queen, a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist-turned-outspoken politician in Star City. Katie Cassidy, Susanna Thompson, Willa Holland and Colin Salmon are co-starring in the pilot. The project is written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim (The Green Lantern) and Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe).

In our second part of our fall television music series, we are taking a look at the new and returning shows on The CW:
Among the new shows on the network is the fantasy teen drama The Secret Circle produced by Kevin Williamson (Scream, The Vampire Diaries) and starring Brittany Robertson, Thomas Dekker, Shelley Hennig, Phoebe Tonkin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Louis Hunter, Natasha Henstridge and Ashley Crow. The composer of the show is John Frizzell (Alien: Resurrection, Dante’s Peak, Office Space) who has worked with Williamson before on the writer’s directorial debut Teaching Mrs. Tingle. The Secret Cirlce has received a full season order and currently airs every Thursday night on the CW.
John Frizzell to Score the CW’s ‘The Secret Circle’
John Frizzell has been hired to score the new teen drama The Secret Circle. The show based on a book by L.J. Smith centers on a young woman who moves to a new town and discovers that not only is she a witch and part of a secret coven, but she’s also the key that will unlock a centuries-old battle of good versus evil. The drama’s cast includes Brittany Robertson, Thomas Dekker, Shelley Hennig, Phoebe Tonkin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Louis Hunter, Natasha Henstridge and Ashley Crow. Liz Friedlander (Take the Lead) directed the pilot and Kevin Williamson (Scream, The Vampire Diaries) is the showrunner of the series. Frizzell previously scored the writer’s feature directing debut Teaching Mrs. Tingle starring Katie Holmes and Helen Mirren.
