Gaumont and Wild Bunch announced today that Cliff Martinez will reunite with director Nicolas Winding Refn on the upcoming horror thriller The Neon Demon. No plot details have been announced yet, but the film is described as a horror tale with a young female-led cast, which will be revealed later this year. Refn and Mary Laws are writing the screenplay. Lene Borglum (Valhalla Rising, Only God Forgives) is producing the project through Refn’s production company Space Rocket. Also on board are editor Matthew Newman (Bronson, Drive) and Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd (The Grandmaster, Seven Pounds, A Good Year). Martinez has previously scored Refn’s two previous features Drive and Only God Forgives.

Soundtrack for Nicolas Winding-Refn’s ‘Valhalla Rising’ Announced
Milan Records will release the first official soundtrack album for Nicolas Winding-Refn’s 2009 Viking action adventure drama Valhalla Rising. The album features the film’s original music composed by Peter Peter and Peter Kyed. Also included are a number of cues by sound designers Giles Lamb and Douglas MacDougall. The soundtrack will be released overseas on October 7, 2013. Check back on this page for the details on the domestic release. Valhalla Rising starring Mads Mikkelsen, Alexander Morton, Stewart Porter, Maarten Stevenson, Matthew Zajac, Gary Lewis and Jamie Sives takes place in 1000 AD and follows a Norse warrior and chained prisoner who is forced to fight to the death for the entertainment of his captors. The British film was released in US theaters in 2010 by IFC Films and is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.
‘Only God Forgives’ Soundtrack to Be Released on Vinyl
Milan Records has revealed the cover art of the Vinyl version of the soundtrack for Nicolas Winding-Refn’s thriller Only God Forgives. The album features the movie’s original score composed by Cliff Martinez (Traffic, Drive, Contagion), as well as the song You Are My Dream by the Thai band PROUD. The 180g LP is limited to 4000 copies and also includes a download card. The soundtrack will be released on July 16, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The details of the soundtrack album for Nicolas Winding-Refn’s upcoming thriller Only God Forgives have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score composed by Cliff Martinez (Traffic, Solaris) who previously scored the director’s last feature Drive. Also included is the song You Are My Dream by the Thai band PROUD, which was used in the film’s trailer. The soundtrack will be released on May 20, 2013 in France, where the movie is opening later this month. Milan Records will release a soundtrack in the US closer to the domestic release in July. Only God Forgives stars Ryan Gosling as the scion of a drug-smuggling family who runs a Thai boxing club and is sent on a quest for vengeance by his mother. Kristin Scott Thomas and Vithaya Pansringarm are co-starring.
Orbital to Score ‘Pusher’ Remake
NME.com is reporting that the British electronic dance music duo Orbital is scoring the upcoming crime thriller Pusher. The movie is an English-language remake of the Danish 1996 film directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) who is involved as an executive producer in the new version directed by Luis Prieto. Pusher stars Richard Coyle (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), Agyness Dean, Bronson Webb and Paul Kaye. Rupert Preston (Monsters, Bronson), Chris Simon and Felix Vossen are producing the Embargo Films and Vertigo Films production. Orbital (aka Paul and Phil Hartnoll) have previously been involved in a number of films, most notably in the 1997 sci-fi horror film Event Horizon, on which they collaborated with composer Michael Kamen. No release date has been announced yet for Pusher.
Cliff Martinez to Score ‘Arbitrage’
Cliff Martinez is currently scoring the indie drama Arbitrage. The movie is directed by Nicholas Jarecki and stars Richard Gere as a troubled hedge fund magnate who is forced to turn to an unlikely ally when he makes an error. Tim Roth, Susan Sarandon, Laetitia Casta, Brit Marling and Josh Pais are co-starring in the drama produced by Laura Bickford (Duplicity), Robert Salerno (21 Grams), Kevin Turen (An American Crime) and Justin Nappi. Bickford has previously produced the Martinez-scored drama Traffic. No word yet on whether any music by J. Ralph who was originally announced as the composer of Arbitrage will remain in the movie.
Cliff Martinez Scoring ‘Drive’
Cliff Martinez has signed on to score the upcoming action thriller Drive. The film based on James Sallis’ crime novel of the same name and adapted for the screen by Hossein Amini (the Wings of the Dove, The Four Feathers) revolves around a Hollywood stunt drive who moonlights as a getaway driver in L.A.’s criminal underworld. He finds himself a target after agreeing to aid the ex-con boyfriend of his beautiful neighbor in a job that goes dangerously awry. The movie stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Oscar Isaacs. Drive is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn who is best known for directing the Pusher trilogy and 2008’s action biopic Bronson. FilmDistrict is planning to release the film on September 16, 2011.
