Abkco Records will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the indie comedy Our Idiot Brother. The soundtrack features selections from the film’s score by Nathan Larson and Eric D. Johnson, as well as songs by such artists as Willie Nelson, Generationals, Fruit Bats, Daniel Tashian & Mindy Smith, El May and Carol King. The album will be released on August 23, 2011 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Sound clips are available in the box below. Our Idiot Brother is directed by Jesse Peretz (First Love, Last Rites, The Ex) and stars Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, Steve Coogan, Hugh Dancy, Rashida Jones and Shirley Knight. The movie premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been picked up by the Weinstein Company for a theatrical release on August 26.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (April 1, 2011)
Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Duncan Jones’ Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga features music by Chris Bacon. A soundtrack including Bacon’s original score has been released by Lakeshore Records as reported here. The album is now available to order on Amazon and can be downloaded at Amazon and iTunes. Bacon has been giving a number of interviews about his latest project. Check out Scorenotes, Film Music Media and Filmmuziek.be for audio interviews with the composer.
Also opening wide is Tim Hill’s Hop starring Russell Brand as the voice of the Easter Bunny, as well as James Marsden, Elizabeth Perkins, Kaley Cuoco and Hugh Laurie. The film’s music is by composer Christopher Lennertz. As reported last week, a soundtrack with Lennertz’ score will be released by Varese Sarabande on April 19. Nathan Larson recently scored three movies that premiered at this year’s Sundance film festival and have been picked by major distributors:
Margin Call is a thriller that revolves around the key people at a investment bank over a 24-hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis. The film marks the feature directing debut of J.C. Chandor and stars Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley, Simon Baker, Mary McDonnell, Stanley Tucci and Demi Moore.
