Variety is reporting that Nathan Johnson (Knives Out, Looper, Brick, Don Jon) has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming psychological thriller Nightmare Alley. He is replacing Alexandre Desplat who was previously scoring the movie. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Toni Collette, Ron Perlman and David Strathairn. The movie is based on the 1946 novel of the same title by William Lindsay Gresham and centers on an ambitious young carny with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words as he hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is.

Jeff Danna & John Fee Scoring Netflix’s ‘Wizards: Tales of Arcadia’
Jeff Danna (The Good Dinosaur, The Addams Family, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, The Boondock Saints) & John Fee (Bad Country, Living on One Dollar) have composed the original score for DreamWorks Animation’s new Netflix series Wizards: Tales of Arcadia. The show is the third installment in Guillermo del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia saga and features the voices of Emile Hirsch, Lexi Medrano, Steven Yeun, Charlie Saxton, Lena Headey, David Bradley, Clancy Brown, Fred Tatasciore, Diego Luna, Mark Hamill, and Kelsey Grammer who are reprising their roles from the previous installments. They are joined by new cast members Alfred Molina, Stephanie Beatriz, James Faulkner and John Rhys Davies. The series follows Merlin’s apprentice as he joins Arcadia’s heroes on a time-bending adventure in Camelot, where conflict is brewing between the human, troll and magical worlds.
Alexandre Desplat to Reteam with Guillermo del Toro on Netflix Animated Movie ‘Pinocchio’
Alexandre Desplat is reteaming with director Guillermo del Toro on the upcoming Netflix animated film Pinocchio. The composer is set to score and is also composing original songs for the stop motion musical, which marks the del Toro’s animated feature film directorial debut. Patrick McHale (Over the Garden Wall, Adventure Time) co-wrote the script with the director and Mark Gustafson is co-directing the movie, which is set in Italy during the 1930s and tells the classic tale of the wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy.
Javier Navarrete to Score Scott Cooper’s ‘Antlers’
Javier Navarrete has been tapped to score the upcoming supernatural horror thriller Antlers. The film is directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass, Out of the Furnace) and stars Keri Russell, Jesse Plemons, Jeremy T. Thomas, Graham Greene, Amy Madigan, Scott Haze and Rory Cochrane. The movie follows a small-town Oregon teacher and her brother, the local sheriff, as they become entwined with a young student harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences. Nick Antosca (The Act, Channel Zero) and Henry Chaisson wrote the screenplay (with revisions by Cooper) based Antosca’s short story The Quiet Boy.

Jeff Danna (The Good Dinosaur, The Boondock Saints, Storks, Tyrant, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) has been tapped to score the upcoming Netflix and DreamWorks Animation Television series 3 Below. The show is created by Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim) and follows two royal teen aliens who crash land on Arcadia and struggle to blend in as they evade intergalactic bounty hunters. The project marks the second series in del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia trilogy following Netflix’s Trollhunters, which is scored by Tim Davies and features themes by Alexandre Desplat. Guillermo del Toro revealed in a recent interview with Indiewire that Alexandre Desplat is set to compose the music for the director’s upcoming fantasy drama The Shape of Water. The film stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg and Octavia Spencer. The movie is described as an other-worldly story, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. Del Toro has also written the screenplay with Vanessa Taylor (Divergent, Hope Springs) and is producing the project with J. Miles Dale (Mama, The Strain).
Netflix’s ‘Trollhunters’ to Feature Music by Alexandre Desplat & Tim Davies
Alexandre Desplat has written the main titles music, as well as the main character’s theme for DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming Netflix original series Trollhunters. The show’s score is composed by Tim Davies. Both composers received an Annie Award nomination for their work yesterday. The series is created by Guillermo del Toro and features the voices of Anton Yelchin, Kelsey Grammer, Ron Perlman, Charlie Saxton, Steven Yeun, Jonathan Hyde, Lexi Medrano, Amy Landecker and Fred Tatasciore. The show follows a 15-year old teenager who stumbles upon a Magical Amulet that gives him the title of Trollhunter, defender of the trolls that live below the human town of Arcadia. Del Toro is also executive producing the project with Marc Guggenheim (Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow) and Rodrigo Blaas.
