Graham Reynolds has composed the score for the indie comedy drama Almost Christmas. The film is directed by Phil Morrison and stars Paul Rudd, Paul Giamatti, Sally Hawkins, Amy Landecker, Peter Hermann and Emory Cohen. The movie follows two French Canadian Christmas tree salesmen who travel to New York to sell trees. Melissa James Gibson (The Americans) has written the screenplay and Daniel Carey & Elizabeth Giamatti (Cold Souls), John Penotti (Awake, Uptown Girls) and Jim Tauber (Stand Up Guys) are producing the Touchy Feely Films and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment production. a-ha’s Magne Furuholmen to Score ‘Beatles’ Movie

Magne Furuholmen, best known as a member of the international pop group a-ha, has signed on to compose the original score, as well as supervise the recordings of other music for the upcoming film Beatles. The movie is based on the bestselling novel by Lars Saabye Christensen and tells the story about four Norwegian youngsters growing up in the 60s and 70s, modeling themselves on their musical heroes: The Beatles. Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg whose last feature Kon-Tiki was nominated in the “Best Foreign Language Film” category at this year’s Academy Awards are directing the film from a script by Axel Hellstenius (Elling). Jørgen Storm Rosenberg (The Bothersome Man) is producing the project through his production company and has signed a deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing and EMI that several of The Beatles’ original recordings can be used in their entirety in the film. Philippe Rombi Scoring Francois Ozon’s ‘Young & Beautiful’

Philippe Rombi is reuniting with director Francois Ozon on the upcoming French drama Young & Beautiful (Jeune et jolie). The movie is written and directed by Ozon and stars Marine Vacth, Charlotte Rampling, Géraldine Pailhas, Frédéric Pierrot, Fantin Ravat and Johan Leisen. No specific plot details have been revealed yet, but the film has been described as a “contemporary portrait of a teenage girl of 17, in 4 seasons and 4 songs”. Eric & Nicolas Altmayer are producing the project. Rombi and Ozon have previously collaborated numerous times, including on such films as Swimming Pool, Angel and Potiche, as well as on the recent thriller In the House, which just opened in select U.S. cities this weekend. Premiering tomorrow, April 22, is the drama Rectify created by Ray McKinnon and starring Clayne Crawford, Abigail Spencer, Adelaide Clements, Jonah Lotan and J. Smith Cameron. The show follows a man who is released from Death Row after spending 19 years in prison and returns to his hometown where he must readjust to his new life, including unfamiliar family members and surroundings. Gabriel Mann (Modern Family, Jane by Design) has composed the show’s score, as well as the main titles theme. Dominic Lewis to Score ‘Free Birds’

Dominic Lewis has signed on to score the upcoming animated feature Free Birds. The film is directed by Jimmy Hayward and follows two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history. The movie’s voice cast includes Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson, Amy Poehler, Dan Fogler, Lesley Nicol, George Takei, Colm Meaney and Keith David. David I. Stern (Open Season 2 & 3) and John Strauss (There’s Something About Mary, The Wild) wrote the screenplay with a rewrite by Craig Mazin (Identity Thief, The Hangover Part II & III). The writers are also producing the Relativity Media and Reel FX production with Scott Mosier (Clerks, Dogma). ‘Fast & Furious 6’ Soundtrack Details

Universal Music Group’s Def Jam Recordings will release a soundtrack album for the action thriller Fast & Furious 6. The album features the songs from the film, including the original track We Own It (Fast & Furious) by 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa. Also included is T.I.’s Ball (feat. Lil Wayne), deadmau5’s Failbait (feat. Cypress Hill) and Ludacris’ Rest of my Life (feat. Usher and David Guetta). Check out the full track list after the jump. Only one new movie is opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi action film Oblivion directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo. The film’s score is composed by Anthony Gonzalez of M83 and Joseph Trapanese (TRON: Uprising, The Raid: Redemption). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as an original end titles song by M83 featuring Norwegian singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfor earlier this week. The film’s original score is composed by John 5 & Griffin Boyce. Carter Burwell to Score ‘Thor: The Dark World’

According to the film’s latest poster, Carter Burwell will be scoring the superhero sequel Thor: The Dark World. The movie is directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, The Emperor’s New Clothes) and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins. The sequel is set one year after The Avengers and follows the title character on a battle to save all the Nine Realms from a mysterious enemy older than the universe itself. Christopher Yost, Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (The Chronicles of Narnia, Captain America: The First Avenger) have written the script based on a story by Don Payne (Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer). ‘Stuck in Love’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande will release the official soundtrack for the indie comedy drama Stuck in Love. The album features the film’s original score composed, arranged, performed and produced by Mike Mogis and Nathaniel Walcott (from Bright Eyes). Also included are three new songs: At Your Door by Mogis and Walcott featuring Big Harp, Somersaults In Spring by Friends of Gemini (Mogis, Walcott and Corina Figueroa Escamilla) and You Are Your Mother’s Child by Conor Oberst. Other artists featured on the album include Bright Eyes, Elliott Smith, Nat & Alex Wolff, Wallpaper Airplanes, Like Pioneers, Rio Bravo and Bill Ricchini. The soundtrack will be released on June 11, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Pino Donaggio Scoring ‘Patrick’

This week, Pino Donaggio has recorded his score for the upcoming horror thriller Patrick. The film directed by Mark Hartley is a re-imagining of the 1970’s Australian chiller of the same title about a comatose hospital patient who harasses and kills through his powers of telekinesis to claim his private nurse as his own. Jason Gallagher stars in the title role, along with Sharni Vinson, Rachel Griffiths and Charles Dance. Justin King has written the screenplay and Antony I. Ginnane is producing the project. Donaggio’s score was recorded in Studio CNSO in Prague. Patrick is set to premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) this summer and will be released in Australia in September.
