black-sailsBear McCreary is composing the score for the upcoming Starz original series Black Sails. The pirate adventure is created by Jon Steinberg (Jericho) & Robert Levine (Touch) follows the tales of Captain Flin and his men twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island. The show’s cast includes Toby Stephens, Luke Arnold, Zach McGowan, Toby Schmitz, Hannah New, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Clara Paget, Tom Hopper and Mark Ryan. Steinberg is executive producing the series with Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller & Andrew Form (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Purge, Friday the 13th). turbo-scoreRelativity Music Group will release a score album for Dreamworks Animation’s feature Turbo. The album features the film’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck-It-Ralph, Puss in Boots). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 23, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. As previously reported, the label will also release a regular edition soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs and selections of the score, as well as a deluxe edition including additional score tracks. Turbo is directed by David Soren and features the voices of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

pacific-rimOpening in the US and select international territories is the sci-fi action monster movie Pacific Rim directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi and Ron Perlman. The film’s music is composed by Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Game of Thrones, Clash of the Titans). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, which also features former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello and singer Priscilla as soloists. grown-ups-2Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Grown Ups 2 directed by Dennis Dugan and starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello and Nick Swardson. The film’s original score is composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams (Over the Hedge, Click, Bee Movie) who previously scored the 2010 original film. No soundtrack album has been announced. The album features the film’s original score composed by Andrew Lockington (Journey to the Center of the Earth, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island). Also included is the song I Feel Alive by IAMEVE. john-paesanoJohn Paesano has signed on to score the upcoming sci-fi mystery drama The Maze Runner. The movie is based on the bestselling young adult novel by James Dashner and is set in a post-apocalyptic era where a group of teenage boys trapped in an enormous maze seek their freedom. The film is directed by Wes Ball and stars Dylan O’Brien, Will Poulter, Patricia Clarkson, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Jacob Lattimore, Ki Hong Lee, Blake Cooper and Aml Ameen. Noah Oppenheim wrote the screenplay for the Temple Hill Entertainment and the Gotham Group production. The movie marks Paesano’s first major studio feature film project. ‘Red 2’ Soundtrack Details

red-2Lionsgate Records will release a soundtrack album for the action comedy sequel Red 2. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, The Avengers). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 16, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips from the score. La-La Land Records has announced a CD version to be released on July 30. Red 2 is directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) and stars Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung Hun Lee, Brian Cox and Neal McDonough. diana-2David Holmes and Keefus Ciancia have taken over scoring duties on Oliver Hirschbiegel’s biographical drama Diana. The movie stars Naomi Watts in the title role of Princess Diana and follows her the last two years of her life and the secret love affair she had shortly before her tragic death. Naveen Andrews is co-starring as Dr. Hasnat Khan, alongside Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James, Charles Edwards and Juliet Stevenson are co-starring. Stephen Jeffreys (The Libertine) wrote the screenplay and Robert Bernstein & Douglas Rae (Becoming Jane, The Water Horse, Nowhere Boy) are producing the project. Holmes is best known for his numerous collaborations with Steven Soderbergh, including the Ocean’s trilogy, Out of Sight and last year’s Haywire. Ciancia who is also known as Keefus Green has collaborated with T Bone Burnett on a number of projects and has most recently co-scored the first season of ABC’s Nashville. romeo-julietAbel Korzeniowski has recently composed a new score for the new film adaptation of Romeo & Juliet. The composer recorded his music on the Eastwood Scoring Stage in Los Angeles, CA at the end of last month with a full orchestra and choir. James Horner previously recorded a score for the film at the end of last year at Abbey Road Studios in London. Romeo & Juliet based on Shakepeare’s play is directed by Carlo Carlei and adapted for the screen by Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park). The film stars Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld in the title roles. The movie’s cast also includes Damian Lewis, Natascha McElhone, Lesley Manville, Ed Westwick, Paul Giamatti, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Stellan Skarsgard. The movie will be released in the UK on July 26.
