Composer, arranger, conductor and pianist Sam Davis has written the underscore for the new film adaptation of the stage musical Kiss of the Spider Woman. The movie is written and directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Gods and Monsters) and stars Diego Luna, Tonatiuh, Jennifer Lopez, Josefina Scaglione, Bruno Bichir and Aline Mayagoitia. The film based on the 1992 stage musical of the same title written by Terrence McNally and featuring music by John Kander & lyrics by Fred Ebb (which is based on the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig) tells the story of a political prisoner and his cellmate, a window dresser convicted of public indecency, who form an unlikely bond as the latter recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring his favorite silver screen diva. Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the action thriller Flight Risk directed by Mel Gibson and starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, Topher Grace, Monib Abhat and Leah Remini. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today.
