Electronic music artist Tim Hecker (The Free World) has composed the original score for the new BBC and AMC+ original series The North Water. The show is developed by Andrew Haigh (Lean on Pete, 45 Years, Weekend) based on the best-selling novel by Ian McGuirand and stars Jack O’Connell, Colin Farrell, Stephen Graham, Peter Mullan, Sam Spruell and Roland Møller. The 5-part drama is set in Hull, England, and on the ice floes of the Arctic in the late 1850s and tells the story of a disgraced ex-army surgeon who signs up as the ship’s doctor on a whaling expedition to the Arctic. Haigh has also directed all episodes and is executive producing the See-Saw Films production with Jamie Laurenson (Top of the Lake), Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning & Emile Sherman (Lion, Widows), Niv Fichman (Enemy, Possessor) and Jo McClellan (The Last Panthers, I May Destroy You). The North Water will premiere in the U.S. this coming Thursday, July 15 on AMC+ and will debut in the UK later this year on BBC Two.
Hecker’s other upcoming projects also include the Austrian feature Luzifer directed by Peter Brunner. A local release in Austria is expected later this year.
