Dan Deacon has signed on to score the upcoming Netflix original film Hustle. The movie is directed by Jeremiah Zagar (We the Animals) and stars Adam Sandler, Queen Latifah, Ben Foster and Robert Duvall, as well as NBA analyst Kenny Smith, and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Juancho Hernangomez. The sports comedy drama follows a down on his luck basketball scout who discovers discovers a phenomenal street ball player with a rocky past while in China and sees the prospect as his opportunity to get back into the NBA. Taylor Materne and Will Fetters (A Star Is Born, Remember Me) wrote the screenplay. Sandler is also producing the Happy Madison project with LeBron James’ & Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Entertainment (Space Jam: A New Legacy) and Roth/Kirschenbaum Films. Deacon’s previous scoring credits include Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt, Theo Anthony’s Rat Film and Rebecca Stern’s Well Groomed. Hustle is expected to premiere in late 2021 on Netflix.
Deacon has also recently scored two movies that premiered last month at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival: Kentucker Audley’s & Albert Birney’s Strawberry Mansion and Theo Anthony’s documentary All Light, Everywhere. He also composed the music for the docu-series Philly DA, which is set to premiere on April 20, 2021 on PBS.
