Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the action thriller Angel Has Fallen directed by Ric Roman Waugh and starring Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lance Reddick, Tim Blake Nelson, Piper Perabo, Nick Nolte and Danny Huston. The film’s original music is composed by David Buckley (The Good Wife, Jason Bourne, Papillon, The Forbidden Kingdom, The Nice Guys). Already playing in theaters since Wednesday is the thriller Ready or Not directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett and starring Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Henry Czerny and Andie MacDowell. Brian Tyler (Fast & Furious, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, Crazy Rich Asians, Now You See Me) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening wide is the faith-based drama Overcomer co-written and directed by Alex Kendrick and starring Kendrick himself, Priscilla C. Shirer, Aryn Wright-Thompson, Shari Rigby, Cameron Arnett and Ben Davies. The film’s original score is composed by Paul Mills (I Can Only Imagine, War Room, October Baby). Reunion Records has released a soundtrack album featuring five tracks of the composer’s music, as well as songs by Casting Crowns, Koryn Hawthorne, Zach Williams & others. Opening in limited release is the comedy drama Brittany Runs a Marathon written and directed by Paul Downs Colaizzo and starring Jillian Bell, Michaela Watkins, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Lil Rel Howery and Micah Stock. Duncan Thum (Chef’s Table, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead, Dealt) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in limited release is the thriller Jacob’s Ladder directed by David M. Rosenthal and starring Michael Ealy, Jesse Williams, Nicole Beharie and Karla Souza. The film’s original music is composed by Atli Orvarsson (The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Vantage Point, Chicago Fire, How It Ends). No soundtrack album has been announced. Opening in New York before expanding to more markets within the next few weeks is the drama Vita & Virginia directed by Chanya Button and starring Gemma Arterton, Isabella Rossellini, Rupert Penry-Jones, Peter Ferdinando and Elizabeth Debicki. Isobel Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Vanity Fair, The ABC Murders) has composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select cities is the thriller Burn written and directed by Mike Gan and starring Josh Hutcherson, Suki Waterhouse, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Harry Shum Jr. and Shiloh Fernandez. The film’s original music is composed by Ceiri Torjussen (The Canal, All Creatures Here Below, Jack Goes Home, Pistorius). No word yet on a soundtrack release. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the comedy Hot Air directed by Frank Coraci and starring Steve Coogan, Taylor Russell, Neve Campbell, Griffin Newman, Pico Alexander, Tina Benko, Lawrence Gilliard, Judith Light and Skylar Astin. Rupert Gregson-Williams (Wonder Woman, Hacksaw Ridge, The Crown, The Legend of Tarzan) has composed the film’s original score.
