Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The LEGO Batman Movie, Home, Terminator Genisys, Genius) has been tapped to score the upcoming fantasy series His Dark Materials. The show is developed by Jack Thorne (The Last Panthers, Wonder) based Philip Pullman’s trilogy of books and stars Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Anne-Marie Duff, Clarke Peters, Will Keen, Ian Gelder, Georgina Campbell and James Cosmo. The drama follows a brave young woman from another world whose quest to find her kidnapped friend leads her to uncover a sinister plot of a secret organization, encounter extraordinary beings and protect dangerous secrets. Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Les Miserables) is directing the first two episodes and is also executive producing the project with Thorne, Pullman, Dan McCulloch (Victoria), Jane Tranter (The Night Of, Succession), Julie Gardner (Doctor Who, Da Vinci’s Demons), Deborah Forte (Goosebumps, The Golden Compass), as well as Toby Emmerich & Carolyn Blackwood for New Line Cinema and Ben Irving (Gentleman Jack) & Piers Wenger (Doctor Who) for BBC One.
