Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide today:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey & Rodney Rothman and starring Shameik Moore, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Liev Schreiber and Brian Tyree Henry. The film’s original score is composed by Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Ocean’s 8). Also opening wide is the crime drama The Mule directed by Clint Eastwood who also stars in the movie alongside Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Pena, Dianne Wiest, Andy Garcia, Alison Eastwood, Taissa Farmiga and Ignacio Serricchio. Arturo Sandoval (For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story, At Middleton) has composed the film’s original score. Toby Keith has contributed an original song to the movie. Also opening nationwide is the film adaptation of Mortal Engines directed by Christian Rivers, produced by Peter Jackson and starring Hugo Weaving Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Rafterty, Leila George, Patrick Maladhide and Stephen Lang. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) (Mad Max: Fury Road, Divergent, Deadpool, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice). Opening in limited release is the drama If Beale Street Could Talk written and directed by Barry Jenkins and starring KiKi Layne, Stephan James, Regina King, Colman Domingo, Teyonah Parris, Brian Tyree Henry and Michael Beach. Nicholas Britell (Moonlight, The Big Short, Battle of the Sexes, Succession, Vice) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in limited release is the Lebanese drama Capernaum written and directed by Nadine Labaki and starring Zain Al Rafeea, Yordanos Shiferaw, Boluwatife Treasure Bankole, Kawthar Al Haddad, Fadi Kamel Youssef and Cedra Izam. The film’s original music is composed by Khaled Mouzanar (Where Do We Go Now?, Caramel). Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select theaters is the crime thriller Backtrace directed by Brian A. Miller and starring Sylvester Stallone, Ryan Guzman, Matthew Modine, Meadow Williams and Christopher McDonald. Tim Jones (Chuck, Human Target, Cult, Office Uprising, Beast of Burden) has composed the film’s original score. Filmtrax has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Opening in select theaters before premiering on Netflix next Friday is the sci-fi thriller Bird Box directed by Susanne Bier and starring Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, Colson Baker, BD Wong, Sarah Paulson and John Malkovich. The film’s original music is composed by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). The Null Corporation will release a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score.
