Two new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby directed by Tom McGrath and featuring the voices of Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow and Miles Bakshi. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Gladiator, Inception, The Dark Knight) and Steve Mazzaro (Bullet to the Head). Also opening wide is the film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbæk, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche and Michael Pitt. Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, Noah) and Lorne Balfe (The LEGO Batman Movie, Terminator Genisys) have composed the film’s original music. Paramount Pictures has released a soundtrack album featuring songs from and inspired by the movie (click here for the full details). A separate soundtrack featuring Mansell’s music was originally set for release today by Lakeshore Records, but appears to have been canceled or postponed indefinitely.
Opening in around 470 theaters is the period drama The Zookeeper’s Wife directed by Niki Caro and starring Jessica Chastain, Johan Heldenbergh, Michael McElhatton and Daniel Brühl. The film’s original music is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Martian, The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek, Man on Fire, Kingdom of Heaven). Opening in limited release is the horror thriller The Blackcoat’s Daughter directed by Osgood Perkins and starring Emma Roberts, Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Boynton, Lauren Holly and James Remar. Elvis Perkins has composed the film’s original music. Death Waltz Recordings has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally today and Mondo will release a vinyl version in April. Also opening in limited release is the romantic comedy Carrie Pilby directed by Susan Johnson and starring Bel Powley, Nathan Lane, Gabriel Byrne, Vanessa Bayer, Colin O’Donoghue, Jason Ritter and William Moseley. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Penn (Girls, Masters of Sex, Boogie Nights). The Orchard has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Disclosure & Lorde, Louise Goffin, Moses Jordan & more. Click here for the full album details.
Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the spy thriller Despite the Falling Snow written and directed by Shamim Sarif and starring Rebecca Ferguson, Charles Dance, Sam Reid, Maria Furtwangler, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Anthony Head and Trudie Styler. Rachel Portman (Emma, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Never Let Me Go) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select cities is the French drama Cezanne et moi directed by Danièle Thompson and stars Guillaume Canet and Guillaume Gallienne as painter Paul Cezanne and novelist Emile Zola. The film’s original music is composed by Eric Neveux (Intimacy, Hideaways, Borgia, The Attack, Nicholas on Holiday). Also opening in select theaters is the sci-fi drama The Discovery directed by Charlie McDowell and starring Rooney Mara, Jason Segel, Robert Redford, Jesse Plemons, Riley Keough and Ron Canada. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (The Gift, Enemy, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Last Days in the Desert) who previously scored the director’s The One I Love have composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The drama is now also available to stream on Netflix.
