Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the drama The Butler starring Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, James Marsden, David Oyelowo, Vanessa Redgrave, Alan Rickman, Liev Schreiber and Robin Williams. The film’s original music is composed by Rodrigo Leão (Lisbon Story). Verve International has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this year. Also opening wide is the superhero action comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2 directed by Jeff Wadlow and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Jim Carrey, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Faison, Clark Duke, John Leguizamo and Morris Chestnut. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs by artists (click here for the full details and audio clips). The film’s original score is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class) and Matthew Margeson (Skyline). Also opening nationwide is the biographical drama Jobs directed by Joshua Michael Stern and starring Ashton Kutcher, Dermot Mulroney, Josh Gad, Lukas Haas, J.K. Simmons, James Woods, Lesley Ann Warren, and Matthew Modine. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2) has composed the film’s original score. Ingenuity Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well songs by REO Speedwagon, Parish Hall and more. La-La Land Records will release a CD version in a few weeks. The final wide release of the week is the thriller Paranoia directed by Robert Luketic and starring Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford, Amber Heard, Josh Holloway, Embeth Davitz, Richard Dreyfuss, Julian McMahon and Lucas Till. The film’s original music is composed by Junkie XL (300: Rise of an Empire). Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Opening in limited release is the romantic comedy Austenland written and directed by Jerusha Hess and starring Keri Russell, JJ Feild, Bret McKenzie, Jennifer Coolidge, James Callis, Georgia King, Rupert Vansittart, Ricky Whittle and Jane Seymour. Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust, The Young Victoria) has composed the film’s score and Emmy the Great has written the original songs for the movie. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring both score and songs earlier this week. Also opening in select cities is the indie drama Ain’t Them Bodies Saints written and directed by David Lowery and starring Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara, Ben Foster and Keith Carradine. The film’s original score is composed by Daniel Hart. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as songs by Curtis Heath, Andrew Tinker, Annell Brodeur, Greg Schroeder & Mara Lee Miller and Aaron Kyle earlier this week. Another limited release this week is the indie coming-of-age drama Standing Up directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Chandler Canterbury, Annalise Basso, Radha Mitchell and Val Kilmer. Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, The Expendables, Fast Five) who previously scored Caruso’s Eagle Eye has composed the film’s original music. Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score physically on September 24.
