Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the animated feature The Wild Robot written and directed by Chris Sanders and starring Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Catherine O’Hara, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, Ving Rhames and Mark Hamill. The film’s original score is composed by Kris Bowers (Bridgerton, Green Book, King Richard, Haunted Mansion, Secret Invasion, The Color PurpleDear White People, Mrs. America). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as two original songs co-written and performed by Maren Morris today. Also opening nationwide is the sci-fi epic Megalopolis written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Fishburne. Osvaldo Golijov (Youth Without YouthThe Man Who CriedTwixtThe Oath) has composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, two original songs by Grace VanderWaal and several tracks by other artists today. Opening semi-wide in around 800 theaters is the biographical drama Lee directed by Ellen Kuras and starring Kate Winslet, Josh O’Connor, Andy Samberg, Andrea Riseborough, Alexander Skarsgård and Marion Cotillard. The film’s original music is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The King’s Speech, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Queen, Godzilla). No soundtrack album has been announced. Also opening semi-wide is the horror Azrael directed by E.L. Katz and starring Samara Weaving, Vic Carmen Sonne, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Katariina Unt and Sebastian Bull Sarning. Tóti Guðnason (LambCold CopyDeliver Us) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows a devout cult of mute zealots who hunts down a young woman who escaped her own imprisonment and she will stop at nothing to ensure her own survival, premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being distributed by IFC Films & Shudder.

Opening in Los Angeles and New York today before expanding nationwide on October 11 is the biographical comedy drama Saturday Night co-written and directed by Jason Reitman and starring Gabriel LaBelle, Cory Michael Smith, Ella Hunt, Rachel Sennott, Dylan O’Brien, Emily Fairn, Lamorne Morris, Finn Wolfhard, Cooper Hoffman, Nicholas Braun, Andrew Barth Feldman, Willem Dafoe, Matthew Rhys and J.K. Simmons. The film’s original music is composed by Jon Batiste (Soul, American Symphony, The First Wave). Verve Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score today. Also opening in select theaters is the supernatural horror thriller Bagman directed by Colm McCarthy and starring Sam Claflin, Antonia Thomas, William Hope, Sharon D Clarke, Steven Cree, Henry Pettigrew, Adelle Leonce, Peter McDonald, Will Davis and Caréll Rhoden. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the thriller Haunted Heart co-written and directed by Fernando Trueba and starring Matt Dillon, Aida Folch and Juan Pablo Urrego. Zbigniew Preisner (When a Man Loves a Woman, Three ColorsThe Queen of Spain, The Secret Garden, Dekalog). has composed the film’s original music. Caldera Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this month. Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the German thriller The Universal Theory (Die Theorie von Allem) directed by Timm Kröger and starring Jan Bülow, Olivia Ross, Hanns Zischler, Gottfried Breitfuss, Philippe Graber, Imogen Kogge and David Bennent. The film’s original music is composed by Diego Ramos Rodriguez. Oscilloscope Laboratories has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last December when the movie opened in Germany.
