Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Soul, Watchmen, Challengers, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) have contributed the title theme to the upcoming HBO original series The Franchise. Jeff Cardoni (Silicon Valley, The Kominsky Method, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, White House Plumbers, Heels, CSI :Miami, Just Friends) is composing the original score for the show created by Jon Brown (Succession, Loaded) and starring Himesh Patel, Aya Cash, Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Darren Goldstein, Lolly Adefope and Isaac Powell. The comedy follows the crew of an unloved franchise movie fighting for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe. Brown is also executive producing the project with Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall), Pippa Harris (1917, Penny Dreadful), Nicolas Brown (Ladies in Lavender, Britannia) and Julie Pastor for Neal Street Productions, Armando Iannucci (In the Loop, Veep) for Dundee Productions, as well as Jim Kleverweis (Euphoria, Insecure). Mendes also directed the first episode. Reznor & Ross have previously collaborated with Mendes on the director’s last feature, Empire of Light. The Franchise will premiere on October 6, 2024 on HBO and will also be available to stream on Max.
Reznor’s & Ross’ recent scoring projects include Luca Guadagnino’s Queer, which just premiered at the Venice Film Festival and will be released later this year by A24, as well as Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge, which is expected to premiere next year on Apple TV+. Cardoni also has the Prime Video original series Cruel Intentions, as well as Season 4 of CBS’ Ghosts coming up.
