This past Tuesday, La-La Land Records has released a 3-CD deluxe edition of Jerry Goldsmith‘s classic score for 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The album presents the score for the original theatrical release and also premieres the early “rejected” cues that Goldsmith recorded prior to composing his famous main theme. Also included is the 1979 album program, as well as additional alternates and bonus tracks. The soundtrack is limited to 10,000 copies. Goldsmith’s score for the film directed by Robert Wise and starring Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, DeForest Kelley and James Doohan received an Academy Award nomination.
The label has also announced the world premiere release of Goldsmith’s original score from the 1967 Paramount Pictures thriller Warning Shot directed by Buzz Kulik and starring David Janssen, Ed Begley and Keenan Wynn. The album is limited to 2000 copies and also featuresthe Si Zentner album, including Si’s interpretation of Goldsmith’s score for the film, as well as Si’s versions of other famous Goldsmith themes, such as Man from Uncle, A Patch of Blue and The Prize.
