Richard Reed Parry (of Arcade Fire) (The Iron Claw, Eileen, The Nest) has recently been scoring the upcoming drama The Actor. The film is directed by Duke Johnson (Anamolisa) and stars André Holland, Gemma Chan, Tracey Ullman, Simon McBurney, Toby Jones and Joe Cole. The movie is based on the bestselling novel Memory by Donald E. Westlake and tells the story of an actor who finds himself stranded in 1950s Ohio, suffering from severe memory loss after a brutal attack and struggling to find his way back to his life in New York. Johnson also co-wrote the screenplay with Stephen Cooney. The director is also producing the project with actress Abigail Spencer for Innerlight Films, Paul Young (Central Intelligence, Black-ish) for Make Good and Ken Kao (Hostiles, Mid90s) for Waypoint Entertainment. Charlie Kaufman and Ryan Gosling serve as executive producers. The Actor is expected to be released in 2025 by Neon.
Parry’s other recent scoring projects include Shannon Walsh’s documentary Adrianne & the Castle, which premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date.
