Ruth Barrett (Bodyguard, Victoria, Sanditon, The Terminal List, Harry Brown, Collateral) is the composer of the upcoming Netflix original series The Decameron. The show is created by Kathleen Jordan (Teenage Bounty Hunters) and stars Amar Chadha-Patel, Leila Farzad, Lou Gala, Tony Hale, Karan Gill, Zosia Mamet, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Douggie McMeekin, Tanya Reynolds and Jessica Plummer. The comedy is set in the Italian countryside in the year 1348 when the Black Death strikes hard in the city of Florence, and follows a handful of nobles as they retreat with their servants to a grand villa to wait out the plague with a lavish holiday. Jordan is also executive producing the project with Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black, Weeds), Blake McCormick (Cougar Town) and Tara Herrmann (GLOW, Teenage Bounty Hunters) for Tilted Productions. as well as Michael Uppendahl (Impeachment: American Crime Story, Candy) who also directed the first two and final two episodes. The Decameron will premiere on July 25, 2024 exclusively on Netflix.
As previously reported, Barrett also has the Netflix sequel The Old Guard 2 (co-scored with Max Aruj) coming up. She also continues to score Law & Order: Organized Crime, which has recently been renewed for a fifth season to premiere exclusively on Peacock.
