Aska Matsumiya (Skate Kitchen, Betty, Bruised, After Yang, I’m Your Woman, Selah and the Spades) has composed the original music for the upcoming drama The Listener. The film is directed by actor Steve Buscemi (who previously helmed such features as Lonesome Jim & Interview) and stars Tessa Thompson as a helpline volunteer who is part of the small army that gets on the phone every night across America, fielding calls from all kinds of people feeling lonely, broken, hopeless, and worried. Alessandro Camon (Bullet to the Head) wrote the screenplay. Buscemi and Thompson are also producing the Hantz Motion Pictures production with Wren Arthur (A Prairie Home Companion, Puzzle), Oren Moverman (The Messenger, Rampart), Lauren Hantz and Bill Stertz & Sean King O’Grady (I Love My Dad). The Listener will premiere next month at Venice sidebar Giornate degli Autori.
