Daniel Wohl (Project Blue BookSearch Party, The Weekend Away, The Stand InThey’ll Love Me When I’m Dead) has recently been scoring the upcoming drama On the Come Up. The film marks the directorial debut of actress Sanaa Lathan and stars Jamila C. Gray, Lathan herself, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Lil Yachty, Method Man, Mike Epps, GaTa, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Titus Makin Jr. and Michael Anthony Cooper Jr. The movie is based on the best-selling YA novel by Angie Thomas (The Hate U Give) and follows a young black girl who attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to do right by the legacy of her father and to help her family climb out of poverty. Kay Oyegun (This Is Us) wrote the screenplay. Thomas is also producing the Paramount Players production with Temple Hill, State Street. On the Come Up will premiere in September at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival and will debut on Paramount+ later this year.
