Premiering in the U.S. tonight is the British mini-series Death and Nightingales adapted and directed by Allan Cubitt and starring Matthew Rhys, Jamie Dornan and Ann Skelly. The show’s original music is composed by David Holmes (Ocean’s 11, Out of Sight, Haywire, Killing Eve, Logan Lucky, Ordinary Love, Analyze That) and Gerry Diver (Pixie). The 3-part drama, which tells a story of love, betrayal and revenge set in the haunting countryside of Northern Ireland in 1885, premiered in the UK in 2018 on BBC Two (and in Ireland on RTÉ One) and is making its U.S. debut on Starz.
Also premiering tonight is the Starz original series Run the World created by Leigh Davenport and starring Bresha Webb, Amber Stevens West, Corbin Reid, Tonya Pinkins, Andrea Bordeaux, Stephen Bishop, Tosin Morohunfola, Erika Alexander, Jay Walker and Nick Sagar. Robert Glasper (The Photograph, Miles Ahead) & Derrick Hodge are composing the show’s original music. Premiering in the U.S. on Thursday, May 20, is the British mini-series Too Close created by Clara Salaman based on her novel of the same title, directed by Susan Tully and starring Emily Watson, Denise Gough, Thalissa Teixeira, James Sives, Risteárd Cooper, Chizzy Akudolu, Karl Johnson, Eileen Davies, Nina Wadia and Paul Chahidi. The show’s original music is composed by Jack Halama (Traces, Rogue, Kindred). The 3-part thriller, which centers on a forensic psychiatrist who must assess a criminal suspect, only to fall victim to her manipulative nature, premiered in the UK last month and is making its U.S. debut on AMC+.
Premiering on Friday, May 21, is the Hulu animated series Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. developed by Pattton Oswalt & Jordan Blum based on the Marvel Comics character and starring Oswalt himself, Aimee Garcia, Melissa Fumero, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ben Schwartz, Jon Daly, Beck Bennett and Sam Richardson. Daniel Rojas (Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts) is composing the show’s original music. Also premiering on Friday is the Amazon anthology series Solos created by David Weil and starring Helen Mirren, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Anthony Mackie, Uzo Aduba, Constance Wu, Dan Stevens and Nicole Beharie. The show’s original music is composed by Martin Phipps (The Crown, Woman in Gold, The Aftermath, War & Peace, The Honourable Woman, Peaky Blinders).
