Adam Schlesinger has passed away today at age 52 as a result of coronavirus complications. The singer/songwriter who was known as a member of bands Fountains of Wayne, Ivy, and Tinted Windows has composed the scores and songs for numerous movies and TV shows. He was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for co-writing the original title song from Tom Hanks’ 1996 directorial debut That Thing You Do!. He also won an Emmy Award for co-writing the song Anti-Depressants Are So Not a Big Deal from The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and two songs written for the 66th Annual Tony Awards. He was also Emmy-nominated for other songs from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, including the main titles track from the show’s first season and a song from A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!. His other notable film music scoring credits include Marc Lawrence’s Music and Lyrics and Whit Stillman’s Damsels in Distress.
