Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature The Addams Family directed by Conrad Vernon & Greg Tiernan and starring Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Bette Midler and Allison Janney. The film’s original score is composed by Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball) & Jeff Danna (The Good Dinosaur, Storks). Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Gemini Man directed by Ang Lee and starring Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen and Benedict Wong. Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The LEGO Batman Movie, Genius, The Crown, Terminator Genisys) has composed the film’s original music. Paramount Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and La-La Land Records will release a CD version next week. Check out our previous article for the full album details.
Also opening nationwide is the comedy Jexi written and directed by Jon Lucas & Scott Moore and starring Adam Devine, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Pena, Justin Hartley and Rose Byrne. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Lost in Space, The Boys, Sausage Party) & Philip White (Nobody’s Fool, Boo 2! A Madea Halloween). Opening in limited release is the South Korean comedy Parasite co-written and directed by Boon Joon-Ho and starring Song Kang-Ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik and Park So-dam. Jung Jaeil (Take Point) who previously scored the director’s last feature, Okja, has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score in the U.S. today. A soundtrack with the same content was released overseas earlier this year. Also opening in limited release is the crime thriller Lucky Day written and directed by Roger Avary and starring Luke Bracey, Nina Dobrev, Crispin Glover, Clifton Collins Jr. and Ella Ryan Quinn. The film’s original music is composed by tomandandy (The Strangers, 47 Meters Down, The Mothman Prophecies and Resident Evil: Afterlife & Retribution) who have previously scored the director’s Killing Zoe, The Rules of Attraction and La voix humaine. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie is being released in theaters and on VOD by Lionsgate.
Also opening in select theaters is the dance movie High Strung Free Dance co-written and directed by Michael Damian and starring Thomas Doherty, Harry Jarvis, Juliet Doherty, Jane Seymour, Ace Bhatty and Desmond Richardson. Nathan Lanier (Jem & the Holograms, Max Steel, Justin Bieber’s Believe) has composed the film’s original score. Also opening in select cities is the horror thriller Mary directed by Michael Goi and starring Gary Oldman, Emily Mortimer, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Stefanie Scott, Chloe Perrin, Douglas Urbanski, Jennifer Esposito and Owen Teague. The film’s original music is composed by The Newton Brothers (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Life of Crime, Oculus). No soundtrack album has been released. Opening in select theaters before premiering on Netflix on November 1 is the historical drama The King directed by David Michod and starring Timothée Chalamet, Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris, Ben Mendelsohn, Robert Pattinson, Lily-Rose Depp, Tom Glynn-Carney and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie. Nicholas Britell (Moonlight, Succession, If Beale Street Could Talk, The Big Short, Vice) has composed the film’s original score. Another Netflix original movie opening in select theaters this weekend is El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie written and directed by Vince Gilligan and starring Aaron Paul, as well as other actors that appeared in the Breaking Bad TV series. The film’s original music is composed by Dave Porter (The Disaster Artist, Preacher, The Blacklist) who has previously scored all episodes of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. The movie is now also available to stream on Netflix.
