Two new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure The Kid Who Would Be King written and directed by Joe Cornish and starring Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Dean Chaumoo, Tom Taylor, Rhianna Dorris, Angus Imrie, Rebecca Ferguson and Patrick Stewart. Also opening wide is the mystery thriller Serenity written and directed by Steven Knight and starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jason Clarke, Diane Lane, Djimon Hounsou and Jeremy Strong. Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Blade Runner 2049, Shazam!, Hidden Figures, Annabelle Creation) has composed the film’s original music. Benjamin Wallfisch has also composed the music for the British heist thriller King of Thieves, which is being released in select U.S. theaters and on VOD by Saban Films this weekend. The movie is directed by James Marsh and stars Michael Caine, Tom Courtenay, Ray Winstone, Jim Broadbent, Charlie Cox, Paul Whitehouse, Michael Gambon and Francesca Annis. Opening in New York before expanding to more markets over the next couple of weeks is the German drama Never Look Away (Werk ohne Autor) written and directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck and starring Tom Schilling, Sebastian Koch, Paula Beer, Oliver Masucci and Saskia Rosendahl. The film’s original music is composed by Max Richter (The Leftovers, Mary Queen of Scots, Waltz with Bashir, Hostiles). Deutsche Grammophon has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in limited release this week is the horror comedy Dead Ant directed by Ron Carlson and starring Tom Arnold, Sean Astin, Jake Busey, Leisha Hailey and Rhys Coiro. Edwin Wendler (I Spit on Your Grave: Vengeance Is Mine, Unnatural, Tales of Halloween) has composed the film’s original score. Also opening in select cities is the biographical adventure drama In Like Flynn directed by Russell Mulcahy and starring Thomas Cocquerel, Clive Standen, Corey Large, William Moseley, Isabel Lucas, Grace Huang, David Wenham and Costas Mandylor. The film’s original music is composed by David Hirschfelder (Elizabeth, Shine, Australia, Strictly Ballroom, Legend of the Guardians, The Railway Man). A soundtrack album was released last fall when the movie opened overseas.
