Premiering on Wednesday, July 25, is the Hulu original series Castle Rock developed by Sam Shaw & Dustin Thomason and starring André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgård, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn. Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty Finding Nemo) has composed the show’s main titles theme, as well as the first two episodes and Chris Westlake (Before We Go, Small Town Crime) has scored the other eight episodes of the first season. Also premiering in the U.S. on Wednesday is the Canadian legal drama Burden of Truth created by Brad Simpson and starring Kristin Kreuk, Peter Mooney, Star Slade, Nicola Correia-Damude and David Lawrence Brown. The show’s original music is composed by Ian LeFeuvre (The Detail, Carter) and Benjamin Pinkerton (Lost Girl, Dark Matter). Jody Colero serves as the project’s score producer and Shawn Pierce (The Bridge, Motive) has provided additional score to a few episodes. The series, which follows a big city lawyer who returns to her hometown to take the case of a group of girls suffering from a mysterious illness, aired earlier this year in Canada on CBC and is premiering stateside on The CW.
Premiering on Friday, July 27 is the sci-fi thriller Extinction directed by Ben Young and starring Michael Peña, Lizzy Caplan, Mike Colter, Lilly Aspell, Emma Booth and Israel Broussard. The film’s original music is composed by The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Ouja: Origin of Evil, Life of Crime, Detachment). The movie follows a family man plagued by dreams of an alien invasion who faces his worst nightmare when an extraterrestrial force begins exterminating Earth’s inhabitants. Missing from last week’s TV music roundup was the Netflix original movie Father of the Year co-written and directed by Tyler Spinel and starring David Spade, Nat Faxon, Joey Bragg, Matt Shively, Bridgit Mendler and Jared Sandler. Elmo Weber (The Ridiculous Six) has composed the film’s original music. The movie centers on a drunken debate between two recent college grads about whose father would win in a fight that leads to mayhem when their dads take the challenge seriously. The comedy premiered this past Friday, July 20 and is now available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
