Mychael Danna and Jeff Danna are composing the music for the upcoming animated feature The Breadwinner. The film based on young adult novel by Deborah Ellis is directed by Nora Twomey (The Secret of Kells). The movie tells the story of Parvana, a young girl living under the Taliban regime, who cuts her hair and disguises herself as a boy in order to provide for her family after her father is imprisoned. Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen are producing the project for Aircraft Pictures, alongside Tomm Moore and Paul Young (Song of the Sea) for Cartoon Salon, and Stephan Roelants for Melusine Productions. Angelina Jolie is among the film’s executive producers. The Breadwinner is expected to be released in U.S. theaters this fall by GKIDS.
The Danna brothers also have the Netflix and CBC mini-series Alias Grace coming up. Mychael Danna is also scoring the first season of Amazon’s The Last Tycoon, which is set to premiere on July 28, 2017.
