Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the thriller The Circle written and directed by James Ponsoldt and starring Emma Watson, Tom Hanks, John Boyega, Patton Oswalt, Bill Paxton, Karen Gillan and Ellar Coltrane. The film’s original music is composed by Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman, Alice in Wonderland). Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a cover version of Shaker’s Simple Gifts recorded for the movie by Jónsi. Also opening wide is the comedy How to Be a Latin Lover directed by Ken Marino and starring Eugenio Derbez, Salma Hayek, Rob Lowe, Kristen Bell, Raquel Welch, Michael Cera, Rob Riggle, Rob Corddry, Michaela Watkins and Rob Huebel. Craig Wedren (Role Models, School of Rock, Wet Hot American Summer) has composed the film’s original score. Nacional Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie, including the songs from the movie by Jungle Fire, The Vanguards, Gaby Moreno, Iris Cepeda, Solomon Burke & more. Opening in around 560 theaters is the sci-fi thriller Sleight co-written and directed by J.D. Dillard and starring Jacob Latimore, Seychelle Gabriel, Dulé Hill, Storm Reid, Sasheer Zamata and Cameron Esposito. The film’s original music is composed by Charles Scott IV. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by Thugli, Julien Jabre feat. Kid Ikarus, Amir Says Nothing and Kid Ikarus. Opening in limited release is the sci-fi thriller Rupture directed by Steven Shainberg and starring Noomi Rapace, Peter Stormare, Lesley Manville, Kerry Bishe and Michael Chiklis. Nathan Larson (Boys Don’t Cry, Dirty Pretty Things, Margin Call, (Our) Idiot Brother). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows a single mother who tries to break free from a mysterious organization that has abducted her. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the supernatural thriller Voice from the Stone directed by Eric D. Howell and starring Emilia Clarke, Marton Csokas, Caterina Murino, Remo Girone, Lisa Gastoni and Edward Dring. The film’s original score is composed by Michael Wandmacher (My Bloody Valentine 3D, Underworld: Blood Wars, Piranha 3D, The Goldbergs). The composer released his score digitally today. He also co-wrote the original song Speak to Me with Evanescence’s Amy Lee, which is available as a separate digital single. Check out our previous article for more information about both releases.
Also opening in select cities is the documentary Bang! The Bert Berns Story directed by Brett Berns & Bob Sarles about the life and career of the 60s songwriter & record producer Bert Berns. Legacy Recording has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by artists including Van Morrison, Erma Franklin, The Isley Brothers, The Strangeloves, The Pussycats, Freddie Scott & more. Another limited release this week is the indie psychological thriller Buster’s Mal Heart written and directed by Sarah Adina Smith and starring Rami Malek, DJ Qualls and Kate Lyn Sheil. The film’s original music is composed by Mister Squinter. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows a mountain man who squats in empty vacation homes while on the run from the authorities. The thriller premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being released in U.S. theaters by Well Go USA. Visit the official movie website for more information.
Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the horror thriller The Black Room directed by Rolfe Kanefsky and starring Natasha Henstridge, Lin Shaye and Dominique Swain. EDM artist Savant (aka Aleksander Vinter) has composed the film’s original music.
