Alexandre Desplat is currently scoring Roman Polanski’s upcoming French-language thriller Based on a True Story. The film starring Emmanuelle Seigner, Eva Green and Vincent Perez follows a Parisian author with writer’s block who discovers a mysterious woman at a book signing. Olivier Assayas (Personal Shopper, Clouds of Sils Maria) and Polanski wrote the screenplay based on Delphine de Vigan’s novel of the same title. Wassim Beji (Yves Saint Laurent, A Perfect Man) is producing the project for WY Productions. Desplat and Polanski have previously collaborated on the features The Ghost Writer, Carnage and Venus in Fur. Based on a True Story is expected to premiere next month at the Cannes Film Festival. Sony Pictures Classics has recently picked up domestic distribution rights.
Desplat’s upcoming projects also include Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (set to be released on July 21, 2017), Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water and George Clooney’s Suburbicon, which was released set for a release on November 3 by Paramount Pictures.
