Hans Zimmer has signed on to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature The Boss Baby. The film is directed by Tom McGrath and features the voices of Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow. The movie is based on the book by Marla Frazee and follows a suit-wearing briefcase-carrying baby who pairs up with his seven-year old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co. Michael McCullers (Austin Powers) has written the screenplay. Ramsey Naito is producing the project. Zimmer has previously collaborated with McGrath on the director’s previous four features, including all three Madagascar films and Megamind. The composer’s other projects for DreamWorks Animation include The Prince of Egypt, Shark Tale, The Road to El Dorado, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and the Kung Fu Panda movies. The Boss Baby will be released on March 31, 2017 by 20th Century Fox. (Variety)
Zimmer’s upcoming feature projects also include Ted Melfi’s Hidden Figures and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. He also scored Ron Howard’s Inferno, which will be released next month.

Considering those previous collaborations between the director and team RCP were mostly handled by Balfe, I’m surprised they didn’t go straight to him for this.
Once again, Zimmer’s name will be on the posters and on the soundtrack album, but we all know that the music will be mostly written by Balfe, and whoever RC ghost writer they can get.
