Marco Beltrami revealed in a recent interview with Film Score Monthly Online that he is scoring the upcoming Netflix original movie First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers. The film directed by Angelina Jolie is based on the non-fiction book by Loung Ung, a Cambodian author and survivor of the Pol Pot regime, and tells the story of her experiences and the horrors she suffered under the rule of the deadly Khmer Rougee. Jolie is also producing the project with Rithy Panh (The Missing Picture). She previously collaborated with Gabriel Yared (In the Land of Blood and Honey, By the Sea) and Alexandre Desplat (Unbroken) on her previous directorial efforts. First They Killed My Father is expected to premiere later this year on in 2017 on Netflix.
Beltrami’s most recent project, Ben-Hur, is currently playing in theaters nationwide. The composer’s upcoming movies also include the Russian drama Matilda. The film is directed by Aleksey Uchitel and stars Michalina Olszanska and Lars Eidinger. The movie enters on a love affair between Russia’s last emperor, Nikolai II, and ballerina Mathilda Krzesinska. The drama is set to be released in Russia in early 2017.
