Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is Disney’s animated feature Zootopia directed by Byron Howard & Rich Moore and featuring the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate and Tommy Chong. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Lost, Inside Out, Star Trek, Up, Jurassic World, The Incredibles). Also opening wide is the action thriller London Has Fallen directed by Babak Najafi and starring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Robert Forster, Jackie Earle Haley, Melissa Leo, Radha Mitchell, Charlotte Riley and Waleed Zuaiter. Trevor Morris (The Borgias, Vikings, Immortals, Olympus Has Fallen) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening nationwide is the comedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot directed by Glenn Ficarra & John Requa and starring Tina Fey, Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfred Molina, Christopher Abbott and Nicholas Braun. The film’s original music is composed by Nick Urata (Paddington, Ruby Sparks, Little Miss Sunshine) who previously scored the directors’ features I Love You Phillip Morris, Crazy, Stupid, Love and Focus. No soundtrack album has been released. Opening in around 500 theaters is the supernatural horror thriller The Other Side of the Door directed by Johannes Roberts and starring Sarah Wayne Callies, Jeremy Sisto, Javier Botet and Sofia Rosinsky. Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Insidious series, Annabelle, Dark Skies) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in limited release is the drama Knight of Cups directed by Terrence Malick and starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Antonio Banderas, Brian Dennehy, Freida Pinto, Imogen Poots, Isabel Lucas, Teresa Palmer and Wes Bentley. The film’s original music is composed by Hanan Townshend (To the Wonder, The Better Angels). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as classical compositions by Arvo Part & Edvard Grieg and other music from the film. Also opening in select cities is the Norwegian disaster thriller The Wave directed by Roar Uthaug and starring Kristoffer Joner, Ane Dahl Torp, Eili Harboea and Jonas Hoff Oftebro. Magnus Beite (Cold Prey, Ragnarok) has composed the film’s original music. Opening in New York before expanding to more cities within the next couple of weeks is the documentary They Will Have To Kill Us First: Malian Music In Exile directed by Johanna Schwartz about the Malian music group Songhoy Blues. The film’s original music is composed by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Knitting Factory has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as other music from the film. Also opening in limited release is the action thriller Camino directed by Josh C. Waller and starring Zoë Bell, Nacho Vigalondo, Francisco Barriero, Sheila Vand, Dominic Rains, Jason Canela, Nancy Gomez, Tenoch Huerta and Kevin Pollak. Kreng (Cooties) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie follows a war photographer embedded with missionaries in Colombia who flees into the jungle after she witnesses a heinous act. The thriller premiered at last year’s Fantastic Fest and is being released by XLrator Media.
