Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters this weekend is the comic book movie Deadpool directed by Tim Miller and starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein and Brianna Hildebrand. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by WHAM!, Salt-N-Pepa, DMX & more. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Zoolander 2 directed by Ben Stiller and starring himself, Penelope Cruz, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen. Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, Marley & Me, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Trumbo). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally today. A CD version will be released next month. The third wide release this week is the romantic comedy How to Be Single directed by Christian Ditter and starring Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Leslie Mann, Damon Wayans, Jr., Alison Brie, Anders Holm, Nicholas Braun, Jake Lacy and Jason Mantzoukas. The film’s original score is composed by Fil Eisler (Empire, Revenge). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring one track from the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including Fifth Harmony, Nick Waterhouse, Avicii, Charli XCX, K7, Phoebe Ryan, Hailee Steinfeld & more. Opening in New York and Los Angeles this weekend before expanding to more markets over the next couple of weeks is the drama Touched with Fire written and directed by Paul Dalio, produced by Spike Lee and starring Katie Holmes, Luke Kirby, Griffin Dunne, Christine Lahti and Bruce Altman. Dalio has also composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album featuring Dalio’s score later this month. Also opening in limited release is the Danish drama A War written and directed by Tobias Lindholm and starring Pilou Asbæk, Tuva Novotny, Søren Malling,Dar Salim and Dulfi Al-Jabouri. The film’s original music is composed by Sune Rose Wagner. No soundtrack album has been released. A War follows a Danish company commander who is accused of war crime upon his return from Afghanistan. The film is one of the five nominated movies in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards and is being released by Magnolia Pictures. Also opening in select theaters this weekend is the romance Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong written and directed by Emily Ting and starring Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg. Opening in New York before expanding to more cities within the next couple weeks is the Chinese drama Mountains May Depart written and directed by Jia Zhangke and starring Dong Zijian, Liang Jingdong, Sylvia Chang, Zhang Yi and Zhao Tao. The film’s original music is composed by Yoshihiro Hanno (Millennium Mambo). Plaza Major Company has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select theaters this weekend is the horror thriller Cabin Fever directed by Travis Zariwny, executive produced by Eli Roth and starring Gage Golightly, Matthew Daddario, Nadine Crocker, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis and Randy Schulman. Kevin Riepl who previously scored Cabin Fever: Patient Zero has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. Cabin Fever is a reboot of Roth’s 2002 feature of the same title and follows a group of five college graduates who rent a cabin in the woods and fall victim to a flesh-eating virus..The movie is being released in theaters and on VOD by IFC Midnight. Another movie opening this weekend is the thriller Standoff written and directed by Adam Allec and starring Laurence Fishburne and Thomas Jane. The film’s original music is composed by Austin Wintory (Journey video game, Captain Abu Raed, A Little Help, Grace). No word on a soundtrack release. Standoff follows a troubled veteran who gets a chance at redemption by protecting a 12 year-old girl from a vicious assassin after she witnesses a murder. The thriller is being released by Saban Films.
