David Lawrence has signed on to score the upcoming documentary Becoming Mike Nichols. The film is directed by Douglas McGrath (Emma, Nicholas Nickleby, I Don’t Know How She Does It, Infamous) and shows director, producer and improvisational comedy Mike Nichols’ final and historic interviews filmed just months before his death. The movie documents the early life of Nichols (The Graduate, Closer, The Birdcage, Charlie Wilson’s War), as he opens up to his friend and director Jack O’Brien about the storied beginnings of his career. McGrath is also producing the project with Frank Rich and Jack O’Brien. Lawrence has previously collaborated with the director on the 2000 comedy Company Men. The composer’s other previous scoring credits include the first two American Pie movies, the High School Musical series, Van Wilder: Party Liaison and the TV show Jericho. Becoming Mike Nichols will premiere in late January at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and will premiere on February 22, 2016 on HBO.
