Jed Kurzel has signed on to score the upcoming drama Blackbird. The film is helmed by theater director Benedict Andrews and stars Rooney Mara, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed and Tara Fitzgerald. The movie centers on the confrontation between a middle aged man and a young woman who had an illicit affair 15 years earlier, for which the man was arrested and imprisoned. David Harrower has written the screenplay. Patrick Daly and Jean Doumanian (August: Osage County, Celebrity, All the Real Girls) are producing the WestEnd Films production. Blackbird is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere in 2016.
Kurzel’s recent projects include the Shakespeare adaptation Macbeth, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will be released in the U.S. on December 4 by the Weinstein Company. The composer is also set to make his directorial debut with the feature Ivan Lendl Never Learned to Volley.
