Johnny Klimek and Tom Tykwer are composing the score for the upcoming comedy drama A Hologram for the King. The film is directed by Tykwer (Run Lola Run, The International) and stars Tom Hanks, Sarita Choudhury, Omar Elba, Tracey Fairaway, David Menkin and Tom Skerritt. The movie is based on the novel by Dave Eggers takes place in an up-and-coming Saudi Arabian city that provides the backdrop for a foundering American businessman’s last-ditch effort to stave off bankruptcy, pay his daughters college fees, and finally accomplish something big. Tykwer also wrote the screenplay. Uwe Schott & Stefan Arndt (Amour, The White Ribbon) are producing the film for X Filme Creative Pool, alongside Arcadiy Golubovich (High School) & Tim O’Hair (Third Person) for Primeridian and Tom Hanks & Gary Goetzman (Charlie Wilson’s War, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Mamma Mia!) for Playtone. Klimek and Tykwer have previously co-composed the music for the director’s previous features with Reinhold Heil. A Hologram for the King is expected to premiere later this year.
Klimek and Tykwer have also co-scored the new Netflix original series Sense8. The show is created by Lana & Andy Wachowski (The Matrix, Speed Racer, Jupiter Ascending) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Changeling) and stars Ami Ameen, Doona Bae, Terrence Mann, Tuppence Middleton, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Max Riemelt, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Brian J. Smith, Daryl Hannah and Naveen Andrews. The Wachowskis and Straczynski are also executive producing the project with Grant Hill (The Tree of Life, V for Vendetta). Tykwer has previously co-directed 2013’s Cloud Atlas with the Wachowski siblings, which featured a Golden Globe-nominated score by the director, Klimek and Reinhold Heil. Sense8 is set to premiere on June 5, 2015 on Netflix
