Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the romantic drama The Age of Adaline directed by Lee Toland Krieger and starring Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman, Kathy Baker, Amanda Crew, Harrison Ford and Ellen Burstyn. The film’s original music is composed by Rob Simonsen (Foxcatcher, (500) Days of Summer, The Spectacular Now). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the end credits song Start Again. Also opening wide is the drama Little Boy directed by Alejandro Monteverde and starring Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin James, Ben Chaplin, Michael Rapaport, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Ted Levine, David Henrie, Eduardo Verastegui and Jakob Salvatri. Stephan Altman and Mark Foster, from Foster the People, have composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the movie’s score earlier this week. Opening in around 300 theaters is the historical drama The Water Diviner directed by Russell Crowe who also stars in the film alongside Olga Kurylenko, Yilmaz Erdogan, Cem Yilmaz, Jai Courtney, Ryan Corr, James Fraser, Ben O’Toole and Isabel Lucas. The film’s original music is composed by David Hirschfelder (Elizabeth, Australia, Shine, The Railway Man). No soundtrack album has been released. The Water Diviner follows an Australian farmer who – four years after Turkey’s Battle of Gallipoli during WWI – travels to Istanbul to discover the fate of his sons who are reported missing in action. The drama opened in Australia at the end of last year and is being released in the U.S. by Warner Bros. Pictures. To learn more about the film, visit the official movie website.
Also opening in limited release is the comedy drama Adult Beginners directed by Ross Katz and starring Nick Kroll, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Joel McHale, Josh Charles, Jane Krakowski, Bobby Moynihan and Jason Mantzoukas. Marcelo Zarvos (Enough Said, The Good Shepherd, The Affair, Ray Donovan) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Adult Beginners follows a young, narcissistic entrepreneur who leaves Manhattan to move in with his estranged, pregnant sister and his brother-in-law and his nephew, only to end up becoming their nanny. The dramedy premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being released by TWC-Radius in select theaters and on VOD.
Also opening in select theaters is the thriller The Forger directed by Philip Martin and starring John Travolta, Christopher Plummer, Tye Sheridan, Abigail Spencer, Marcus Thomas, Travis Aaron Wade, Lyndon Smith, Anson Mount and Jennifer Ehle. The film’s original music is composed by Rob Cairns (Dallas, The Bachelor). No soundtrack album has been announced. Another limited release this weekend is the comedy Helicopter Mom directed by Salomé Breziner and starring Nia Vardalos, Jason Dolley, Kate Flannery, Skyler Samuels , Mark Boone Junior and Lisa Loeb. Jeff Cardoni (CSI: Miami, Silicon Valley, Step Up All In, Just Friends) has composed the film’s original music. Helicopter Mom follows a high school student whose mother outs him to the entire school, sets him up on dates and signs him up for a college scholarship for gay kids. Also opening in select cities is the comedy drama Just Before I Go directed by Courtney Cox and starring Seann William Scott, Kate Walsh, Olivia Thirlby, Garret Dillahunt and Kyle Gallner. The film’s original music is composed by Erran Baron Cohen (Borat, Brüno, The Dictator). No word on a soundtrack release. Just Before I Go follows a depressed man who heads back to his hometown to right some wrongs before committing suicide. The dramedy premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released in theaters and on VOD by Anchor Bay Entertainment.
Receiving a limited theatrical release before premiering on May 4 on HBO is the documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck directed by Brett Morgen about Kurt Cobain, lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter of Nirvana, who remains an icon 20 years after his death. Jeff Danna (Tyrant, Fracture, Lakeview Terrace, The Gospel of John) who previously collaborate with the director on films including The Kid Stays in the Picture has composed the movie’s original score.
