Rob Simonsen has composed the music for the upcoming drama Stonewall. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Stargate, 2012, The Patriot) and stars Jeremy Irvine, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ron Perlman, Jonny Beauchamp, Joey King, Caleb Landry Jones, Karl Glusman, Vlademir Alexis, and Alexandre Nachi. The movie follows a young man in New York caught up during the 1969 Stonewall Riots, a pivotal event widely considered the starting point for the modern gay civil rights movement. Jon Robin Baitz (Brothers & Sister, The Slap) has written the screenplay. Emmerich is also producing the Centropolis Entertainment production with Michael Fossat, Marc Frydman (The Contender, Flyboys, Straw Dogs) and Carsten Lorenz. Stonewall is set to be released this fall by Roadside Attractions.
Simonsen has also composed the score for the romantic drama The Age of Adaline, which will be released later this month. The composer’s other upcoming projects also include the horror comedy The Master Cleanse starring Johnny Galecki, Anna Friel, Oliver Platt and Anjelica Huston.
So this means that Emmerich’s partneship with Harald Kloser and Thomas Wander is over? ‘Cause I can’t remember a single note of anyone of their scores for his films. I am curious now for what composer he will choose for Independence Day 2. David Arnold’s return would be ideal, but I know that’s a distant dream.
I thought exactly the same thing. Hopefully, Arnold will be back.
Don’t blame them because you have bad memory. The theme of The Day After Tomorrow made me a movie music fan. I can’t remember anything from Arnold’s scores, except the theme from Independence Day, and the firestorm cue. The rest, pure bombastic. Also, Kloser is a close friend of Emmerich, and he’s producing the film and he’s working on Independence Day 2.
