Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the film adaptation of E.L. James’ bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and starring Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson, Jennifer Ehle, Marcia Gay Harden, Luke Grimes, Max Martini, Dylan Neal, Eloise Mumford, Rita Ora and Victor Rasuk. Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring songs from and inspired by the film by such artists as Annie Lennox, Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding, AWOLNATION, Sia & more. Also opening wide is the spy action comedy Kingsman: The Secret Service directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong and Jack Davenport. The film’s original music is composed by Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Big Hero 6, X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph) and Matthew Margeson (Kick-Ass 2, Skyline). Opening in limited release is the musical drama The Last Five Years directed by Richard LaGravenese, based on the off-Broadway musical of the same title and starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. Jason Robert Brown has composed the film’s music. Sh-K-Boom Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs written by Brown and performed by Kendrick and Jordan earlier this week. Also opening in limited release is the romantic comedy The Rewrite written and directed by Marc Lawrence and starring Hugh Grant, Marisa Tomei, Bella Heathcote, Allison Janney, J.K. Simmons and Chris Elliott. The film’s original music is composed by Clyde Lawrence. Lakeshore Record has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as additional music by Cody Fitzgerald this past Tuesday. Also opening in select theaters is the horror thriller GirlHouse directed by Trevor Matthews, written by Nick Gordon and starring Ali Cobrin, Adam DiMarco and Slaine. The film’s original music is composed by tomandandy (The Strangers, The Mothman Prophecies, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Arlington Road). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music, as well as songs by Slaine, Todd Michael Schultz, Com Truise and Jesse Rhodes earlier this week. Another limited release this week is the Kickstarter-funded thriller Da Sweet Blood of Jesus directed by Spike Lee and starring Stephen Tyrone Williams, Zaraah Abrahams, Rami Malek, Elvis Nolasco, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Joie Lee, Felicia “Snoop” Pearson and Jeni Perillo. Bruce Hornsby who previously scored Lee’s Red Hook Summer has composed the film’s original music. No word on a score release. Epic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by artists including Siedah Garrett, Govales, Jasiel Ace, The IZM, Nou, Illegalize, Bama McGro & more. Also opening in select cities is the faith-based romance Old Fashioned written and directed by Rik Swartzwelder and starring himself, alongside Elizabeth Ann Roberts, Dorothy Silver, Tyler Hollinger, Lejon Woods, Nini Hadjis, Maryann Nagel and Joseph Bonamico. The film’s original music is composed by Kazimir Boyle. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music.
