Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy sequel Dumb and Dumber To directed by Peter & Bobby Farrelly and starring Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Kathleen Turner, Laurie Holden, Rob Riggle, Rachel Melvin and Steve Tom. The film’s original music is composed by the electronic music duo Empire of the Sun. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring music from the duo, as well as songs by Eels, Natural Child, Lissie, Firefall, Franz Ferdinand, Jake Bugg, The Dahls and more. Also opening wide is the drama Beyond the Lights written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Nate Parker, Minnie Driver, Richard Colson Baker (“MGK”) and Danny Glover. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the original song Grateful written by Academy Award-nominated songwriter Dianne Warren and performed by Rita Ora, as well as songs by artists including Mavado feat. Opening in New York and Los Angeles before expanding nationwide over the next couple of weeks is the drama Foxcatcher directed by Bennett Miller and stars Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Vanessa Redgrave, Sienna Miller, Anthony Michael Hall, Guy Boyd and Dave “Doc” Bennett. Rob Simonsen (The Spectacular Now, The Way Way Back, (500) Days of Summer) has composed the film’s original music. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as additional music composed by West Dylan Thordson and Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball) and the songs from the film by Bob Dylan and This Will Destroy You. Also opening in LA and New York is the western The Homesman directed by Tommy Lee Jones who also stars in the film alongside Hilary Swank, Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter, David Dencik, William Fichtner, John Lithgow, Tim Blake Nelson, Jesse Plemons, James Spader, Hailee Steinfeld and Meryl Streep. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Scream, The Wolverine). Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally on November 17 and physically next month. Check out our soundtrack announcement for the full album details. Opening in 371 theaters is the drama Rosewater directed by Jon Stewart and starring Gael García Bernal. Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Departed, Hugo) has composed the film’s original music. Howe Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as tracks by Leonard Cohen, as well as Persian musicians Mahdyar Aghajani and 25 Band. Opening in around 400 theaters is the family comedy Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas directed by Darren Doane and starring Kirk Cameron, Doane himself, Bridgette Ridenour, David Shannon, Raphi Henley and Ben Kientz. Reunion Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from and inspired by the film by artists including 1 Girl Nation, Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman, Tenth Avenue North, Kerrie Roberts, Rebecca St. James, Building 429 & more. Also opening in select theaters is the the dark comedy Miss Meadows written and directed by Karen Leigh Hopkins and starring Katie Holmes, James Badge Dale, Callan Mulvey, Ava Kolker, Jean Smart and Mary Kay Place. The film’s original score is composed by Jeff Cardoni (CSI: Miami, Just Friends, Step Up All In). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is in the works.
