Jake Monaco has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming romantic comedy Playing It Cool. The film is directed by Justin Reardon and stars Chris Evans, Michelle Monaghan, Aubrey Plaza, Giovanni Ribisi, Topher Grace, Ioann Gruffud, Luke Wilson, Martin Starr Ashley Tisdale and Philip Baker Hall. The movie follows a man disillusioned by love who meets an engaged woman and feigns a platonic relationship in order to keep seeing her as he tries to conquer her heart. Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair (Before We Go have written the Black List-honored screenplay. McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation) and Mary Viola are producing theVoltage Pictures production with Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker) & Craig Flores (Charlie Countryman). As reported last year, Andrew Feltenstein & John Nau were originally scoring the film, which was previously entitled A Many Splintered Thing. Playing It Cool is set to be released overseas this fall. No domestic distribution deal has been announced yet.
Monaco has also co-scored the hit comedy Let’s Be Cops, which is currently playing in theaters nationwide. His other previous scoring credits include Struck by Lightning and Kilimanjaro. He has also collaborated with composer Christophe Beck on numerous projects, including the McG-directed action comedy This Means War.
