Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the teen drama If I Stay directed by R.J. Cutler and starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Mireille Enos, Jamie Blackley, Joshua Leonard, Liana Liberato, Aisha Hinds and Stacy Keach. The film’s original score is composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Beverly Hills Chihahua). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Beck, The Orwells, Sonic Youth, Odessa, Willamette Stone, Ben Howard, Lucius, Tom Odell & more. Also opening wide is Robert Rodriguez’s & Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and starring Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Ray Liotta, Josh Brolin, Powers Booth, Rosario Dawson, Stacy Keach and Lady GaGa. Robert Rodriguez has also composed the film’s music with Carl Thiel (Machete Kills, From Dusk Till Dawn). Morada Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the movie’s original score. The third wide release of the week is the sports drama When the Game Stands Tall directed by Thomas Carter and starring Jim Caviezel, Michael Chiklis, Alexander Ludwig, Clancy Brown and Laura Dern. The film’s original music is composed by John Paesano (The Maze Runner, Crisis, Dragons: Riders of Berk). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last week. Opening in limited release is the indie comedy drama Are You Here written and directed by Matthew Weiner and starring Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, Amy Poehler, Jenna Fischer, Melissa Rauch, Laura Ramsey and Edward Herrman. David Carbonara who is also scoring Weiner’s AMC hit series Mad Men has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. Are You Here follows a womanizing weatherman who takes a road trip to a friend’s childhood home after the friend’s father dies. The dramedy premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being released by Millennium Entertainment.
Also opening in select cities is the indie drama Love Is Strange directed by Ira Sachs and starring John Lithgow, Alfred Molina, Marisa Tomei, Darren Burrows, Charlie Tahan and Cheyenne Jackson. The film doesn’t feature an original score. Susan Jacobs serves as the movie’s music supervisor. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the classical pieces from the film composed by Frédéric Chopin, Arnold Schoenberg and Henryk Wieniawski and a song by Nina Simone. Another limited release is the indie drama The One I Love directed by Charlie McDowell and starring Mark Duplass, Elisabeth Moss and Ted Danson. Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Marcy May Martha Marlene, Enemy, Magic Magic) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The One I Love follows a couple that escapes to a beautiful vacation house for a weekend getaway in an attempt to save their marriage. The drama premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released both in theaters and on VOD by the Weinstein Company’s Radius label.
Also opening in limited release is the drama May in the Summer written and directed by Cherien Dabis who also stars in the film alongside Nadine Malouf, Alia Shawkat, Hiam Abbas, Bill Pullman, Ritu Singh Pande and Alexander Siddig. The film’s original music is composed by Kareem Roustom who previously scored the director’s Amreeka has composed the film’s original music. May in the Summer follows sophisticated New Yorker woman who returns to her childhood home of Amman, Jordan for her wedding, where familial and cultural conflicts lead her to question the big step she is about to take. The drama premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival (with a score by Carlo Siliotto) and was picked up by Cohen Media Group for domestic distribution.
Also opening in select cities is the thriller The Prince directed by Brian A. Miller and starring Jason Patric, Bruce Willis, John Cusack, Jung Ji-Hoon a.k.a Rain, Jessica Lowndes, Johnathon Schaech, Gia Mantegna and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Life of Crime, Detachment) have composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album is reportedly in the works. The Prince follows a retired assassin is drawn back into the life he gave up when his daughter is kidnapped. The thriller is being released in theaters and on VOD by Lionsgate.
Another limited release this weekend is the horror thriller Cam2Cam directed by Joel Soisson and starring Tammin Sursok, Ben Wiggins, Sarah Bonrepaux, Jade Tailor and Russell Geoffrey Banks. The film’s original music is composed by Elia Cmiral (Ronin, Battlefield: Earth, Wrong Turn). No soundtrack album has been announced. Cam2Cam follows five Bangkok tourists who have gone missing after making online contact with an unknown party. The thriller is being released both in theaters and on VOD by IFC Midnight.
