Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action sequel The Expendables 3 directed by Patrick Hughes and starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Dolph Lundgren, Kelsey Grammer, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film’s music is composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Fast & Furious, Thor: The Dark World) who previously scored the first two installments in the series. Lionsgate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this werk and La-La Land Records will release a CD version later this month. Also opening wide is the sci-fi drama The Giver directed by Phillip Noyce and starring Brenton Thwaites, Odeya Rush, Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Swift, Cameron Monaghan, Emma Tremblay and Katie Holmes. Marco Beltrami (Scream, World War Z) has composed the film’s original score. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Already in theaters since Wednesday is the action comedy Let’s Be Cops. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, Edge of Tomorrow, The Hangover) and Jake Monaco (Struck by Lightning). No soundtrack album has been announced. Opening in select cities is the horror comedy Life After Beth written and directed by Jeff Baena and starring Aubrey Plaza, Dan Dehaan, Anna Kendrick, Matthew Grey Gubler, John C. Reilly, Cheryl Hines, Molly Shannon and Paul Reiser. The rock band BRMC (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Life After Beth follows a man devastated by the unexpected death of his girlfriend who miraculously comes back to life, and takes full advantage of the opportunity to share all the things he regretted not doing with her before. The comedy premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by A24 Films. For more information about the film, visit the official movie website.
Opening in New York before expanding to other cities is the indie comedy Frank directed by Lenny Abrahamson and starring Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Scoot McNairy. Silva Screen Records has released the song I Love You All performed by the fictional band The Soronprfbs featuring the character of Frank, played by Fassbender.
